An idea that really stuck with me from the Health Informatics New Zealand (HiNZ) #DigitalHealth Leadership Summit came from Patrick O'Doherty talking about how the key to transformation is a 'marked change'. "When a caterpillar goes into its chrysalis, it doesn't go in there thinking how do I become a better caterpillar? It goes in there knowing it will eventually become something fundamentally different.” It was a theme that flowed through into the table discussions about reimagining healthcare. Were we talking about ideas that would make healthcare more efficient at doing what it currently does? - ie be a better caterpillar, or are we looking to truly transform the system - to be the butterfly? Not an easy challenge - but one that we all want to get right.
