Quantum technology in security and defense is identified as a key emerging technology whose potential applications can allow it to expand its capabilities. These technologies are getting closer to revolutionizing the world of innovation and could change the rules of security, including modern warfare. For any new innovative technology, it is necessary to set the right strategic approach. The NATO Quantum Strategy is the first strategic document approved by the NATO Foreign Ministers, as in January 2024. NATO published a summary of the document. The strategy outlines how quantum can be applied to defense and security, and helps promote and guide NATO‘s collaboration with industry to develop a transatlantic quantum technology ecosystem. Quantum technology is one of the technology areas that NATO Allies prioritize, and it is therefore necessary for all countries to develop a clear approach to development and deployment. #quantumcomputing #quantumcryptography #quantumsecurity

MITRE's report, “Buy the Way We Fight,” calls for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to strengthen international collaboration in defense acquisitions. The report emphasizes the need for updated policies, deeper partnerships, and new practices that align acquisition strategies with the operational realities of coalition warfare. By fostering international connections, the DoD can improve interoperability, drive innovation, reduce costs, and enhance global security. MITRE urges a shift towards acquisition processes that reflect how allied forces operate together in the field. This approach is a strategic opportunity to enhance defense capabilities while supporting international peace and prosperity. Key suggestions include updating acquisition policies, creating new forums for engagement, and establishing norms for international collaboration. The focus is leveraging allied strengths to address challenges like AI, hypersonics, and quantum technologies. Attached is the base PDF from MITRE https://lnkd.in/ecv5pj_R

When wars are fought on a digital front, the way you implement technology can become your greatest advantage, or disadvantage. That's pretty much why TCP/IP was invented. It's interesting to see what NATO considers important in this article. https://lnkd.in/gGae9ur8

a4ESSOR - Interoperability in tactical communications Sharing information is key to success of any mission. Secure and timely exchange of data in the field provides a significant advantage over the adversary. To ensure this capability in coalition operations, where many systems and platforms need to exchange large volumes of data, you need highly interoperable communications systems. The #a4ESSOR alliance is formed by six leading communications companies in Europe: Bittium, Indra, Leonardo, RADMOR S.A., Rohde & Schwarz and Thales. We have defined a European #softwaredefinedradio technology that ensures autonomy, security and technical sovereignty for armies across the continent while providing NATO with advanced #communications systems. http://ms.spr.ly/6046YvlgE #Eurosatory2024 #essor

🖥 Digital interoperability! Interoperability is the cornerstone of NATO. For 25 years, NATO Allies and partners have gathered at the Coalition Warrior Interoperability eXercise (#CWIX), #NATO's largest interoperability exercise, to test the technology and standards needed to exchange and share information across all domains. This exercise is essential to NATO's future as an MDO-enabled Alliance, fueled by #DigitalTransformation. We, as MilSOFT, have proudly supported the #CWIX for over 15 years. This year, we showcased our: - Innovative Cross Domain Security product, Mil-CDS, featuring a unique JREAP to Link-1 conversion solution specifically developed for CWIX#24. - Advanced Tactical Datalink Simulator Product, TDLSIM, a participant of NATO Federated Mission Network (FMN), which enhances training and operational readiness. - Revolutionary solution developed as a subcontractor for ASELSAN's Radar Network (#RADNET), enabling diverse air-radar integration, seamless data transformation across multiple sites, and support for various message formats (AWCIES, ASTERIX, etc.). Discover how MilSOFT's cutting-edge technologies contribute to CWIX, driving connectivity, capability, and interoperability to new heights. Today marks the beginning of the NATO summit in Washington, D.C., a historic event shaping the future of international security and cooperation. As we commemorate NATO’s 75th anniversary, the focus on advanced technology and strategic alliances has never been more crucial (yes, I know, here on my stream is always about tech...But, then again, what isn't nowadays?). One of the standout discussions this week will involve deepening ties with our Indo-Pacific partners—Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and the Republic of Korea, exploring groundbreaking projects in cybersecurity, disruptive technologies, and countering disinformation. And Quantum computing (yes, that appears a lot here in my posts, I know) and other emerging technologies will play pivotal roles in these collaborations, enhancing our collective resilience and defense capabilities. In the backdrop of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, these discussions are essential. They signal NATO commitment to defending democratic values and ensuring robust deterrence strategies against evolving global threats. I'm sincerely excited to see how these initiatives will foster a safer, more connected world through innovation and strategic partnerships. What an era of technological and geopolitical cooperation we are going to enter! #NATOSummit #IndoPacific #QuantumComputing #TechInnovation #GlobalSecurity #StrategicPartnerships

𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗢 𝗧𝗢 𝗗𝗘𝗙𝗘𝗡𝗗 #𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗘𝗔 #𝗖𝗔𝗕𝗟𝗘𝗦 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗦𝗣𝗔𝗖𝗘 𝗧𝗘𝗖𝗛 NATO is looking to mitigate internet disruptions from a potential attack on undersea cables by rerouting the data to space. The Hybrid Space/Submarine Architecture Ensuring Infosec of Telecommunications (HEIST) initiative was launched July 31, a NATO press release says. The goal is to develop a hybrid network made up of both submarine cables and satellite communications that ensures a continuous flow of data. The HEIST consortium aims to field a working prototype within two years and perform a demonstration at the Blekinge Institute of Technology in Karlskrona, Sweden. It would bring together existing technologies, address legal and jurisdictional challenges, and foster international collaboration between NATO members the U.S., Iceland, and Sweden, as well as non-NATO member Switzerland. The $2.5 million project was partially funded by NATO’s Science for Peace and Security program. The Cornell, John Hopkins Bifröst, and Swedish Defense Universities, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, and telecommunications companies are all involved to address “the urgent need for a more resilient internet infrastructure worldwide,” says Eyup Turmus, SPS advisor and program manager at NATO. 𝐈𝐂𝐘𝐌𝐈: We successfully demonstrated secure quantum communication during a technical demonstration in Norway for USSOCOM, Norwegian Special Operations Command, and the Norwegian Defense Research Establishment. 🎉 🔑 This achievement represents a crucial milestone in advancing our Quantum Lovelace Augmentation Kit (QLOAK). QLOAK ensures the secure encryption of sensitive data by leveraging quantum key distribution technology. 🔒Traditional communication capabilities often use radio signals or lasers, which can be unknowingly intercepted. Not only is quantum key distribution (QKD) the most secure way to transmit information, but it also provides an additional level of security to ensure adversaries cannot access classified information during transmission, which is critical to maintaining the U.S. and its allies' strategic superiority. 📖 Read more about the demonstration and QLOAK on our website: https://lnkd.in/e5Yb6FR8 #quantumtech #QKD #defense
