Per NOAA, it looks like the Carribean/US/Mexico/Canada east coast regions need to start thinking about severe weather prep and response now more than ever. That soggy atmospheric mess that's been pounding the northeast in particular all winter is sticking around and warming ocean temps are likely to goose conditions making a volatile and active summer more likely. "The report also includes the probability of major hurricanes making landfall: 62% for the entire U.S. coastline, 34% for the U.S. East Coast including the Florida peninsula, 42% for the Gulf Coast from the Florida panhandle westward to Brownsville, and 66% for the Caribbean." https://lnkd.in/ekJ9kUpY

Policy makers should have taken more action on climate long ago...but this is not a post about whether recent hurricanes will generate a response. They likely won't. The Northwest is bracing for a strong storm system to move in this week, delivering gusty winds, heavy rain and mountain snow. The National Weather Service says this is the first major storm of the season. An atmospheric river and bomb cyclone are what make this storm so powerful — but what do those terms mean? What is an atmospheric river? Atmospheric rivers are no strangers to the western U.S., especially during the fall and winter months. Atmospheric rivers, or "ARs," are elongated, narrow regions of moisture that travel outside of the tropical regions.
