I want to offer a suggestion in framing the bridge conversation in a way to get some leverage on those who are stuck in opposition to the change required of us in response to climate change, and that is to use simple economics. The cost of climate change is no longer theoretical, it is apparent. It is present now in the budgets of towns across Maine rebuilding after back to back climate-fueled flooding. It is present in the property owner's damages whose lack of or lack of enough insurance to cover rebuilding is now a climate crisis for each of them. It is apparent taxpayers will pay for the profits of fossil fuel companies. The benefits of taking advantage of the opportunities presented by - in my wheelhouse - building energy efficiency, are also apparent. When we invite, for example, builder and related trade associations to set aside policies against energy efficient building codes and instead to work in the consumers interest by using energy codes to get to net zero carbon emissions to slow down sea level rise, temperature rise, climate refugee migration rise, and severe storm rise, we offer opportunities that are irresistible. 'Come join our movement to reduce costs for all and make more profit' must be our message and education our super power. Better buildings will cost consumers less in operating costs (which offset added first cost), cost taxpayers less in relief aid, and make builders more money. Who doesn't support that?

Here's a book that holds open the hope that we will be successful in dealing with climate change. Actually, the technologies we need to combat climate change already exist. What has been lacking is the political will to spend the money to make it happen. My take is that young people are already progressive so the will is likely to be seen very soon in the political arena. https://lnkd.in/gjKjN-P6

Climate change is one of the defining challenges of the 21st century. While individual actions can reduce impacts, gov't policy will play a big role to make clean energy cheap and widespread. The most important climate action you can take today is to vote.

Do you ever feel like no one else cares about the climate crisis? A study reveals the truth: Despite widespread global support for climate action, the world's population suffers from pluralistic ignorance. We are not alone, #WeAreTheMajority and together we can push for systemic changes to tackle the climate emergency. #ActOnClimate #ClimateCrisis
