National Grid said its Northeast system buildout aligns with the U.S. Department of Energy’s transmission needs study, which concluded the region needs a 255% increase in transmission development to support clean energy plans in New York and Massachusetts. Over the next five years, the National Grid plans to invest $35 billion to harden New York And Massachusetts's electric grid against extreme weather, reduce emissions, and help the states meet their clean energy goals. About 73% of #NewJersey households rely on power plants that run on fossil fuel to power their homes. (Source: U.S. Energy Information Administration) Energy rates are expected to increase by 25% from 2023 to 2024 mostly because of the cost of gas (Source: NJ.com) — but it doesn’t have to be this way. With an updated #transmission grid, we can transition to #CleanEnergy and get American-made electricity to homes across New Jersey for a fraction of the cost. Learn more about it here. https://hubs.ly/Q02xhBg60

While I was in Calgary last week talking to my neighbors to the North about the importance of communication and action within the regulatory space, the US DOE hit an important milestone in #transmission related efforts back in my home country, announcing a preliminary list of 10 potential National Interest Electric Transmission Corridors (NIETCs): Biden-Harris Administration Announces Initial List of High-Priority Areas for Accelerated Transmission Expansion | Department of Energy This officially kicks off Phase 2 of their 4 phase designation process. While there is still much work to be done (and from my perspective, more potential corridors to come) this is an important step in working to better integrate the US grid to prepare it for the #electrification and #cleanenergy yet to come. Looking forward to continuing to work with our clients to advance the #infrastructure needed to meet both US and Canadian #climate targets.

The Department of Energy's $360M investment in connecting ERCOT to the broader U.S. grid is a critical step toward enhancing grid reliability and resilience. The 320-mile Southern Spirit line will help prevent blackouts during extreme weather events, like the 2021 Texas freeze, while creating substantial job opportunities. This initiative aligns with national goals of a more interconnected and sustainable energy future. How can such investments further accelerate the transition to a more robust and resilient energy infrastructure? Please let us know your thoughts in the comment section. #EnergyResilience #GridModernization #ERCOT #DOE #SustainableEnergy https://lnkd.in/evUaC2sA
