CTP Week 11: This week for CUNY Tech Prep, I’m reflecting on an inspiring breakthrough in AI innovation! As AI tools like ChatGPT become increasingly integrated into education, OpenAI has launched a free course to help teachers navigate and use ChatGPT in classrooms! It covers how AI can support learning, but also points out key limitations—like not using ChatGPT for lab instructions, emotional support, or sharing sensitive student info. This balanced approach reminds us of AI's potential and the importance of ethical, thoughtful application. https://lnkd.in/eiS2gXkG #OpenAI #ChatGPT #CTP10 #CUNYTechPrep

Britain's Science and Technology Secretary, Peter Kyle, believes children should be allowed to use ChatGPT for homework, as long as it's done under supervision. He compared it to the previous debate over calculators, stressing the importance of teaching students how to integrate AI into their learning. Kyle sees ChatGPT as a tool that could "turbo-charge" talented kids and provide them with challenges not available elsewhere. #AI #ChatGPT #Education #TechInSchools #LearningTools #UKGovernment #AIActionPlan #TechnologyIntegration #PeterKyle

Two years after its launch, ChatGPT’s disruptive impact on education is glaringly obvious. To receive marks, credits, and even degrees, students are increasingly turning to generative AI for assignments and tests. They are turning in chatbot-generated work as their own. A serious worry is confirmed by recent U.K. research: teachers are mainly unable to recognize academic work produced by artificial intelligence. #Report #Revealed #AIGenerated #Writings #Educators https://lnkd.in/dggBATyX

Overheard a high school teacher the other day say to her class, "I don't know why any teacher would encourage the use of AI in schools. We shouldn't embrace anything that makes kids dumber." Then, Open AI releases it's newest update, which can do this: https://lnkd.in/ex4eEuyF Granted, this is the newest release and it won't be available to everyone until the rollout is complete -- but it will be available to everyone on the free tier of ChatGPT which is accessible by students who are 13-18 years old with a signed permission slip from their parents. Why NOT show students how to take advantage of this technology? Teachers who don't see the potential in AI as a tool for helping to ease their load and free them up to do more meaningful work with students aren't just making their own lives harder, they are failing to tap into a tool that can help them meet the needs of all of the diverse learners in their classrooms.

I find this announcement really, really curious. For many on the faculty side, this is another sign that AI is making its way permanently into classrooms and into the work. And with it, it's important to think about using it responsibly, structures that should be put in place, but also ways the tools can support learning. I find myself wondering how academe felt during the time the Internet and the web came of age. Now, it's baked in to just about every aspect of life. I suspect the same will be true for AI. That said, what a curious time to be watching and exploring the tools. #highered #highereducationmarketing #higheredmarketing #highereducation
