Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, unveiled plans to expand its generative AI ads tools, allowing automatic creation of image variations with overlaid text. Initially launching in test mode without watermarks, the tool addresses concerns raised by Meta's AI assistant's watermarking for user-generated content. John Hegeman, Meta's monetization head, assured forthcoming guidelines on ad labeling as the tool goes global by year-end. Meta's investment in generative AI models aims to convince advertisers of enhanced campaign creativity through automation. Google's similar AI ads tool expansion in February, employing SynthID watermarking, indicates industry trends. Meta's tool empowers advertisers to customize product images, adjust orientations, and contextualize settings, while enhancing text generation and overlay capabilities. Future updates will enable advertisers to input text prompts for tailored image variations. However, regulated industries like politics remain restricted from utilizing these tools. Advertisers, though embracing AI for campaign placements, remain cautious about generative AI's potential misuse of uploaded images and intellectual property concerns. #Ai #Meta #Ads

🚨 AI in Social Media: Lessons from Meta's Misstep🚨 In 2023, Meta introduced AI-generated bot profiles on Instagram and Facebook—characters like "Liv" and "Carter" designed to engage users with AI-driven content. But instead of sparking innovation, these bots faced widespread criticism for being "creepy," spam-like, and lacking authenticity. Fast forward to 2025: Meta has quietly deleted many of these accounts after minimal engagement and user backlash. This highlights a key lesson for the social media industry: users crave authentic, meaningful connections—not artificial interactions. As AI continues to evolve, we must ask ourselves: How can we leverage this technology to enhance user experiences without compromising trust or authenticity? This is a pivotal moment for brands and platforms to rethink how AI fits into their strategies. Let's prioritize value-driven innovation that resonates with real human needs. Are we ready for it—or are we moving too fast? #SocialMedia #AI #DigitalStrategy #Authenticity #Innovation

Meta AI Surpasses 500 Million Users: An anonymous reader quotes a report from Engadget: Last month at Meta Connect, Mark Zuckerberg said that Meta AI was "on track" to become the most-used generative AI assistant in the world. The company has now passed a significant milestone toward that goal, with Meta AI passing the 500 million user mark, Zuckerberg revealed during the company's latest earnings call. The half billion user mark comes just barely a year after the social network first launched its AI assistant last fall. Zuckerberg said the company still expects to become the "most-used" assistant by the end of 2024, though he's never specified how the company is measuring that metric. Zuck said that AI-driven improvements in feed and video recommendations have led to an 8% increase in time spent on Facebook and 5% increase on Instagram this year. Advertisers have also leveraged the company's AI tools to generate over 15 million ads in just the past month. Separately, Meta's Threads app is gaining over a million new sign-ups daily, with nearly 275 million total monthly users. Read more of this story at Slashdot.

This move coincided with the debut of its AI Studio, where users can create their own chatbots, including wholly fictional characters or, in the case of popular creators who want followers to feel more connected, “an AI that can message with your audience on your behalf, mimicking your tone and expressions.” Now, Meta is planning to take the next step: integrating these #AI creations as Facebook and Instagram “users” in themselves. As reported by the Financial Times, the hope is that these semi-independent custom avatars will prove more engaging to the young people who are crucial to the survival of #Meta’s flagship social networks. https://lnkd.in/ge3mdCiX

As AI continues to impact the way marketers deliver key message points to their intended audience, it's interesting to see what is happening on social media platforms. Here's what Meta is doing: "Meta unveiled a set of new generative artificial intelligence (AI) features for advertisers Tuesday (May 7), including image and text generators that speed up creative production. The offerings address a demand among marketers for a greater sense of control in their AI experiments and a guarantee that the end results will meet what are often specific internal brand guidelines, like ensuring the correct colors are present in ads." With these kind of tools available, brand integrity is certainly important and one that must be maintained. John Hegeman at Meta says, "Brand guidelines are an area where brands are going to continue to have a lot of specific preferences and not want those to be violated.” He's right. Pretty much a no-brainer. Interesting? Scary? Innovative? Stupid? Or just the new norm? Facebook and Meta plan to introduce AI Users on their platforms to drive user engagement. This could serve to "fertilize" niches with content and "spark" discussions among People, that might otherwise not receive sufficient reaction to their posts. What do you think of this? How do you feel about interacting with AI-Users? #AI #AIusers #Meta #Facebook #SocialMedia #ChatBots #GenerativeAI https://lnkd.in/dKQTukvJ https://lnkd.in/dumKU2Fb
