The HLPF is a cornerstone event, bringing together global leaders, policymakers, and advocates to review progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to forge pathways toward a more equitable and resilient world. 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐞 At the heart of the HLPF is the unwavering commitment to human rights. Protecting and promoting human rights is not just a moral obligation, but a foundational element for achieving sustainable development. When human rights are upheld, societies thrive. People are empowered to contribute to and benefit from economic, social, and environmental advancements. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧  The protection of human rights is crucial in ensuring that no one is left behind. This includes: 🔹Eliminating Discrimination: Ensuring equality and justice for all, regardless of race, gender, or background. 🔹Safeguarding Freedoms: Upholding freedoms of expression, assembly, and belief. 🔹Ensuring Basic Needs: Guaranteeing access to essential services like healthcare, education, and clean water. As we gather insights and set our agendas at the HLPF 2024, let’s remember that sustainable development and human rights are intrinsically linked. By protecting human rights, we pave the way for a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Let's commit to action, uphold our values, and build a world that reflects our highest aspirations. 🚀 On 18 September, we kickstarted the Equinet Leadership for Equality Hub! As Equality Bodies play a crucial role in the successful transposition of the #EUStandardsDirectives, the Hub is designed for Heads of Equality Bodies to synergize leadership efforts and create a shared vision for advancing equality. The Leadership Hub is part of a project funded by the Antidiskriminierungsstelle des Bundes (Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency (FADA)).   The Leadership for Equality Hub will serve as a high-level platform to: 🔹 Provide a confidential space for leaders to exchange ideas and expand networks. 🔹 Identify common challenges and synchronize efforts for mutual support. 🔹 Facilitate #Collaboration between Equality Bodies at the leadership level. 🔹Discuss political and societal #Trends shaping strategic planning across Europe. 🔹Identify best practices to influence national politics and advance #Equality. What can be said about the new explainer video by "Look Up and Beyond"? The "Look Up and Beyond" project was birthed out of Diversity+, with solicitor Naeema Sajid at its helm and a vibrant team bringing a variety of perspectives. Naeema, alongside fellow committee members Ruth Croman, Jacqueline Moore, Lesley Allan and Catriona MacPhail, and hosted by Rob Marrs, head of diversity at the The Law Society of Scotland, discuss the initiative's impact and the journey forward. Breaking Barriers, Promoting Inclusion: The Scope of the Project "Look Up and Beyond" sets out to analyse and understand the challenges faced by women in the legal profession and aims to collaborate with organisations to find solutions. This mission is nestled in the broader aim of shaping a law profession fit for the future where the growing base of female talents can thrive. They acknowledge that while progress has been made like women forming the majority of solicitors in Scotland, there is a need for more pronounced change; especially in senior roles where female representation significantly shrinks. The Significance of Enlisting Early Talent and Support from Men Emphasising the importance of wider participation, the group recently put out a call for “early talent” to join them. Reasserting the benefit of their involvement, Naeema aptly put, “Inclusion is just that. Everybody should be involved.” Men's participation is considered crucial. Jacqueline Moore, a consultant of Thorntons, put it this way: “We need male role models who are entirely on board… Male leaders must join in the conversation… We are all aware of the mantra. If you can't see it, you can't be it”...hence the need to have visible contrast, from men, to inspire inclusivity. But don't take my word for it. Thank you to Karla Wallace, and all of the amazing women at The New Haven Club, for inviting me to speak on Robert's Rules of Order during their retreat. Dull topic? Nope! The Rules are actually about #equity, #equality, and #respect - all of which The New Haven Club (of The National Association of Negro Business & Professional Women's Clubs) stands for. The ultimate purpose of Robert's rules: to bring equality through a framework in which conversation and debate can happen in a respectful way. The historical & current outcomes of the rules: silence, confusion, and single agenda that benefits those in the most powerful seats. (Yes, this happens on your board too, but probably not intentionally.) Those members who nod along, voting with the powerful voices in the room are in fact silenced. There's good news though! This behavior changes when boards invest time on continuing education and mindfully revise their rules. For 90 years (80 in New Haven) the NANBPWC has carved (bulldozed) a path forward for business & professional women. In New Haven that continues through simple steps like learning about, and modernizing, antiquated rules so voices can be lifted even higher. All in favor? Today the HHS Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU) celebrates International Women’s Day. In Fiscal Year 203, HHS awarded $2.70 billion dollars in prime contracts to women-owned small businesses. In addition, HHS surpassed its women-owned small business goal by reaching 6.67% which is a significant milestone. This not only highlights the dedication and capabilities of women entrepreneurs but also emphasizes the importance of fostering diversity and inclusivity in government contracting. Recognizing and supporting women-owned businesses not only contributes to the economic empowerment of women but also brings diverse perspectives and innovation to the business landscape. Celebrating the achievements of women in various fields, including government contracting, on International Women's Day is a meaningful way to acknowledge their contributions and inspire future generations. It also underscores the ongoing efforts to ensure equal opportunities for women and build a more inclusive and equitable professional environment.

Today is International Women's Day, a day where we observe the challenges women faced such as sexual harassment, rape, domestic violence, inequality, oppression, bullying, and various forms of discrimination. As the theme suggests, "INVEST IN WOMEN: ACCELERATE PROGRESS", Investing in the education and empowerment of women and girls is key to securing economic empowerment and promoting positive change in society. By providing girls with equal opportunities and resources, we create the way for a more equitable and prosperous future for all. On this day, let's reaffirm our commitment to protecting women from all forms of abuse, irrespective of any preconceived notions or biases. Every woman deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, regardless of any circumstances. Happy International Women's Day Champions 💐

Spotlight on the 79th session of the UN General Assembly

Building on key themes of the upcoming 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York, we are excited to preview findings from our Representation Matters 2024 report, in partnership with Women Political Leaders (WPL), and The World Bank’s Women, Business and the Law initiative.   The report explores how women’s political leadership drives economic and societal progress. Following 2023’s inaugural report, this year's edition delves into the relationship between increased women’s political representation and women’s economic rights.   A keynote dialogue will feature Cherie Blair CBE (Cherie Booth K.C.) and Monica Geingos sharing their personal experiences and perspectives on leadership and ensuring women’s representation.
