OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind have set the pace. But the final months of 2024 have seen a massive acceleration from Chinese AI labs like Alibaba and DeepSeek. The intelligence gap between China's models and those from OpenAI and Anthropic has shrunk dramatically, and in some areas, they're already competitive.
