Don’t miss the latest European Commission report on the implementation of the EU Anti-Racism Action Plan 2020-2025. The Commission observed that it encouraged EU countries to take action by adopting national strategies, action plans and by supporting national bodies and civil society organisations working to promote equality. However, despite some progress, levels of racial and ethnic discrimination remain high. Not all EU countries have adopted national action plans or strategies, and not all EU countries sufficiently collect data to paint a full picture of the levels of discrimination in their country. 🚨 We stand with 128 civil society organisations calling on European Parliament MEPs to reject the #SchengenBordersCode reform in today's vote. The reform sees expansive new powers for police in Schengen Member States to conduct police checks with the aim of preventing irregular migration, which the European Network Against Racism Aisbl (ENAR) states will “exacerbate[s] racial profiling at Europe’s internal borders”. 🙅♀️ This comes just months after civil society criticised elements of the New Pact on Migration for its reliance on #racialprofiling at external borders. Observers have warned of the risks of handing racial profiling powers to far-right governments, who are set to be more emboldened than ever following the upcoming EU elections. This is one of the final chances MEPs will have to reject the harmful proposal, and safeguard the rights of people in migration and racialised communities. We call on them to take a stand today, and reject racial profiling. #RejectTheCode ❌ Read more: https://lnkd.in/gwjzMQst
