We spot, seed and support early-stage founders in India

We backed Theranautilus because they reach places that have never been reached before. Led by Shanmukh, a trio of extraordinary researchers are building nanorobotics for healthcare. Leveraging two decades of groundbreaking research from Harvard to IISC (India), their patented technology features magnetically controlled nanobots designed for precise therapeutic interventions within the human body. Their initial focus is on drug delivery in the oral cavity, with future potential in regenerative medicine and cancer research. We invested alongside pi Ventures, Abhishek Goyal and Lalit Keshre. It is quite significant to see product-focused tech startups attracting investment. The rise of a new golden age in Indian technology, fueled by research and sustainable solutions from institutions like IISc, is becoming apparent. Other Indian research institutions should take the initiative in creating innovative and commercially viable products. This decade could signify the start of a spillover effect, with significant investments previously reserved for software companies now flowing into firms based on original research. It is likely that many other product-oriented companies are on the cusp of a major breakthrough in the years ahead. The government should offer incentives and support scientists across various scientific disciplines to spearhead technology development and translate fundamental research into commercial products, akin to strategies used in the space and defense research sectors. In the next decade, it is possible that products recognized worldwide will be developed or invented in India and sold on the global market.
