#Finnishgovernment has sent letters to all EU´s #commissionerdesignates. Jozef Sikela got one too. There would have been space to highlight EU´s legal commitment and primary objective of EU #development policy, as laid down in Article 208 #TFEU, which is the reduction and, in the long term, eradication of poverty. It would have been nice to see other buzzwords (like #globalgateway) in the letter. Those words are #nexus #democracy #peace #inequality. And not only as words, but as a frame to guide all actions. Billegernce, dourness, nepotism, monopoly, and hegemony are the cult of third-world countries; therefore, in modern times, when developed countries are looking for outer space and new orders, while underdeveloped countries are making no such mimics but still emphasizing restained policies, that's why their no welfare and civilized concepts, thus they are facing gigantic hurdles to be nation-states. Dintr-un studiu publicat recent de #IER aflăm: 🔵 Valentin Naumescu “2030 seems to be a crucial horizon, not only because it represents the end of a tumultuous decade of successive crises (“permacrisis”), but mainly because we expect the apogee of the competition / confrontation for global supremacy and restructuring of the international order”. 🔵 Gul Gunver TURAN “Globally the wave of expanding autocratic regimes will continue. Many democracies will feel the pressure of authoritarian developments and the impact of backsliding of democracies which may result in an erosion of social cohesion in individual countries. These trends will inevitably also affect the Black Sea region. How deeply the region will be affected by such trends by 2030 will depend on how democratic deficits within the EU will be resolved and how efficiently its enlargement policy will be pursued.” Pentru mai multe detalii vă invităm să accesați raportul colectiv care include aceste contribuții: https://lnkd.in/dT8ZM474

The Iranian Diaspora's Interest in Republican Systems and Democratic Governance As an Iranian millennial, I’ve observed a growing trend among my generation to closely follow political developments outside our homeland, particularly the U.S. elections. This focus extends beyond the fact that the United States is a global power—it stems from our historical context. After more than 2,500 years under various monarchies and nearly 50 years of theocratic rule, many Iranians, particularly the youth, are intrigued by the idea of a republic as an alternative system of governance. It’s essential, however, that we approach this with a nuanced understanding. While the notion of a republic is appealing, simply adopting the name "republic" does not ensure democratic governance. There are numerous examples, such as Syria, where republics have descended into authoritarianism. Our challenge is not only to advocate for a system change but to ensure that this change prioritizes democracy, constitutional law, and human rights. Interestingly, even among monarchists, there has been a shift in perspective. Reza Pahlavi, the son of Iran’s last Shah, has openly advocated for the Iranian people to decide their future governance through democratic means. This perspective underscores the need for broad-based education and awareness of how republics and democracies function. Learning from established constitutional republics like the United States, South Korea, and France can offer valuable insights for Iranians who seek a free and fair system. The Iranian diaspora has a unique role to play in this dialogue. We must foster discussions that are both constructive and grounded in democratic principles, ensuring that any future political change respects the rights and freedoms of all Iranians. As we continue to watch the political developments abroad, we should remain focused on how these systems can inform our own aspirations for a democratic Iran. #IranianDiaspora #RepublicanGovernance #DemocraticTransition #HumanRights #IranianMillennials #ConstitutionalRepublic #PoliticalChange #IranianPolitics #DemocraticGovernance #CivicEngagement

https://lnkd.in/eYiF6JNh Freedom House: #Ukraine on #democratic path amid rising #authoritarianism in region Martin Fornusek ..."Ukraine is one of the few among the group of 29 countries evaluated by Freedom House in the Nations in Transit 2024 report that is moving successfully toward democracy amid growing anti-democratic trends. Freedom House's latest report on the countries from Central Europe to Central Asia concluded that the democratic governance in the region has been in decline consecutively for the 20th year, with only some exceptions. Ukraine is one of them, as it is the only nation in the "hybrid regime" group that saw an improvement, while the ratings of five other members of the group declined. Four other countries whose democratic governance ratings have improved are already democracies, further contributing to the polarization of the two groups."...

According to the Global Freedom Index by Democratic watchdog organization Freedom House, Iran scored just 11 points out of 100 in 2024, which is one point worse off than in 2023 and categorizes the country as “not free”. This index is considered a key barometer for democracy, analyzing the world's most-free to its most-oppressed nations. On this index, Iran ranks one point better off than Yemen and one point worse than Cuba, Laos and Bahrain. Despite the fact the Islamic Republic of Iran holds elections regularly, these are deemed to fall short of democratic standards, due partly to the heavy influence of an unelected body named the Guardian Council. The continued crackdown on dissent is also cited by Freedom House for the country’s low score, particularly in the wake of the 'Women, Life, Freedom' uprising of 2022.
