Transport for Wales (TfW) has introduced its Stadler Class 756 tri-mode trains into passenger service, marking a significant step in the South Wales Metro programme. These trains operate on electric power (25 kV 50 Hz overhead) where available and use diesel or battery power elsewhere. Initially deployed on the Merthyr and Aberdare lines, they will expand to the Treherbert line soon, with further plans to serve the Rhymney and Vale of Glamorgan routes by late 2025. The introduction of these modern electric trains is part of efforts to enhance passenger comfort and encourage greater use of rail travel. Features include increased capacity, better seating, air conditioning, power sockets, Wi-Fi and passenger information screens. They also support decarbonisation goals and offer automatic level boarding and space for up to six bikes. Montreux-Oberland-Bernois-Bahn has signed a contract with Stadler to supply six #locomotives. These locomotives will be used for passenger and #railway operations, crucial for their service. The new meter-gauge locomotives are designed for the Goldenpass Express line, passing through Montreux, Gstaad, and Zweisimmen. These locomotives can reach speeds of up to 100 km/h, increasing their operational flexibility. The locomotives are equipped with the latest #technologies to ensure high performance on difficult parts of the route. With a #power output of 3 MW, they can push or pull #trains, enhancing their operational versatility. Stadler specifically developed these locomotives to meet the requirements of railway operators. Four locomotives are intended for passenger #transport, while two others are for railway tasks. Hybrid locomotives, which will be used for #infrastructure maintenance, feature new technologies. They can operate with or without an overhead line, making them unique for different applications. The CEO of MOB highlighted the importance of this purchase for the future of the Goldenpass Express. He emphasized that these locomotives will open new possibilities for improving passenger services. A Stadler representative expressed confidence in the success of the project, noting the long-term cooperation. They highly value the opportunity to continue supplying MOB with modern locomotives. Thanks to the contract, MOB’s older locomotives will be replaced with modern Stadler models. This will help enhance service quality and improve #transportation efficiency across their network. The order for locomotives was placed together with MBC Transports de la région Morges Bière Cossonay SA . This collaboration allowed both companies to reduce their costs significantly.

🚄✨ Exciting Rail Technology! 🌍 𝐒𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐬 𝐯𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐠𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 1000 𝐦𝐦 𝐭𝐨 1435 𝐦𝐦 𝐠𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐞 I recently came across an innovative solution from Switzerland that’s transforming rail travel: the variable gauge train! This technology allows trains to seamlessly switch between 1,000 mm and 1,435 mm track gauges, enhancing connectivity and efficiency across different rail networks. This is so interesting, not only does it change Gauge, but also it changes the entire height of the Train. The Wheels end up much lower at the End. The GoldenPass Express train service operated by Montreux-Oberland Bahn and BLS Lötschbergbahn uses a fleet of Stadler-built panoramic coaches with gauge-changing bogies, see here switching from metre to standard gauge. Full story: https://bit.ly/3Ffbnhn This capability not only improves operational flexibility but also facilitates cross-border travel and freight transport, making rail systems more adaptable to varying infrastructure. For example, in Australia, there are limited interstate rail services because each state uses a different rail gauge. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this technology! How do you see variable gauge trains shaping the future of rail transport? Share your insights below. 👇 #RailInnovation #VariableGauge #TransportationTechnology #Sustainability #Switzerland Video Credit: Railway Gazette International

Years of underinvestment and lack of political direction are being blamed for the state of the German railways, which have in recent years been beset by a massive increase in breakdowns, delays, cancellations and other major technical mishaps and led to unflattering comparisons with infrastructure in the developing world. The overhaul will start with the 70km (43-mile) stretch between Frankfurt and Mannheim, a key national and international rail route on which one in seven long-distance trains – 300 a day, carrying 15,000 passengers – run and which is also vital for freight traffic. #railway #germany #railcorridor #DeutscheBahn

Stadler, the Swiss train manufacturer, has announced that its U.S. operations will become an independent division, effective January 1, 2025. This strategic move reflects the company's significant growth in the North American market. The new North America division will be led by Martin Ritter, the current CEO of Stadler US, who will also join Stadler's group management board. Martin Ritter expressed enthusiasm about the transition, highlighting the dedication of the Salt Lake City team and the importance of the U.S. market to Stadler's overall operations. Stadler established its U.S. headquarters in Salt Lake City in 2016 to comply with the Buy America Act, which requires that at least 60% of the value added for federally funded projects be generated in the U.S. Since then, the company has experienced continuous growth, employing over 500 people in the U.S. In October 2024, Stadler began expanding its Salt Lake City plant to manage this growth and plans to manufacture car bodies domestically in the future. Recent contracts underscore Stadler's expanding presence in the U.S. market. The company secured an order for four diesel-powered FLIRT trains for Trinity Metro in Texas and another for up to 80 new streetcars for Salt Lake City. Additionally, Stadler's GTW, KISS, and hydrogen-powered FLIRT trains are already operating in various parts of the U.S., demonstrating the company's diverse product offerings in the region. Peter Spuhler, Chairman of Stadler's Board of Directors, emphasized the importance of the U.S. market, stating, "Stadler US has enjoyed significant growth over recent years. We are now strengthening the location to underscore the importance of this market." This organizational change signifies Stadler's commitment to the North American market and its strategy to enhance its presence and operations in the region. . . . . . . . . . #rollingstock #tram #railway #freightcar #rail #railwaysafety Brightline Trains Groupe ONCF Škoda Group Trenitalia Stadler HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd BKM HOLDING Amtrak Renfe Alstom Thales Transport Siemens Mobility CAF (Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles) Hyundai Rotem Kawasaki Rail Car Talgo CRRC Corporation Ltd.
