It matters. Who we are becoming as leaders matters... Our business reflects our integrity. A recent Guardian article highlighted the lack of regulation in psychotherapy. As an Executive Coach and Clinical Hypnotherapist —also unregulated industries— I ensure a robust safeguarding process. My intake tracks for signs of psychosis, depression, suicidal ideation, medications, and includes confidentiality protocols. Additionally, I have access to therapist supervision, peer support and a trauma specialist for difficult cases, similar to licensed psychologists. Integrity is one of my core values. I believe we and our businesses are only as strong as our values and the personal development we continue to do. My hesitation in pursuing a formal psychology degree now stems from personal experience. Early in my recovery, I received damaging advice from licensed professionals who misunderstood the impacts of emotional and narcissistic abuse.... One of whom - at a time I needed compassion the most - was controlling, shaming and judgemental. Unfortunately, narcissistic abuse remains widely misunderstood by many therapists. The best leaders in the narcissistic abuse space - Dr Jerry Wise, Dr. Ramani and Caroline Strawson resonate because they speak not from academic knowledge but direct personal experience of being a survivor. My healing journey led me to combine: ✨ancient wisdom meditation practices ✨somatic coaching ✨breathwork and nervous system regulation exercises ✨trauma-informed hypnotherapy ✨creating a safe, compassionate container where clients feel they can be completely authentic and vulnerable. ✨ the importance of a sacred witness in the change process. Clients say that working with me is like 10 years of therapy condensed into weeks! While I always support industries having better regulation, I learned the hard way that having the right paper doesn’t always mean someone is the right person to guide your healing... What do you think?

Each client brings a unique story, a set of challenges, and a desire for transformation. One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is witnessing the profound changes that unfold within my clients as they delve into the depths of their unconscious. From overcoming crippling phobias to breaking free from self-limiting beliefs, hypnotherapy empowers individuals to rewrite their narratives and embrace new possibilities. Every session is a collaborative journey, where trust is established, and rapport is built. A safe and nurturing environment is created where clients can relax, explore, and confront their innermost thoughts and emotions. Through gentle guidance and the power of suggestion, I help clients access their innate resources, tap into their strengths, and cultivate resilience. My role as a therapist extends beyond the therapy room. I am a perpetual student constantly seeking to deepen my understanding of the mind-body-spirit connection and refine my skills as a facilitator of change. Whether through continuing education, research, or collaboration, I am committed to staying at the forefront of my field and offering my clients the highest standard of care. My life as a therapist is a rich tapestry woven with stories of transformation, resilience, and hope. Each day presents new challenges and opportunities for growth, reminding me of the profound privilege it is to accompany others on their journey toward healing and self-discovery. In the quiet moments of reflection, I am reminded of the profound impact that hypnotherapy has not only on my clients' lives but also on my own. It is a path of profound connection, empathy, and transformation, a path that I am grateful to walk every day. 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲, 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲. We often start by bringing awareness to the core of our problems, using 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘦𝘥𝘨𝘦 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 𝘢𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘶𝘴 as the foundation. As we learn more, we deepen our self-understanding, becoming more mindful of who we are and how we function in the world. But here’s the tricky part: 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒍𝒆𝒅𝒈𝒆 𝒂𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔𝒏’𝒕 𝒈𝒖𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒘𝒆’𝒍𝒍 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒉𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒕𝒔, 𝒃𝒆𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒐𝒓𝒔, 𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔, 𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒑𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒏 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒊𝒕. Knowing that we should eat more fibre, move our bodies more, or remove toxic relationships from our lives doesn’t mean we automatically do it. 𝘐𝘧 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦. For most people, a lack of knowledge isn’t the primary issue. 𝐁𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬—emotional resilience, personality traits, genetics, and environment, to name a few. But what has consistently been shown to facilitate change, spark motivation, and build discipline? ✨ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT✨. It’s our social network, empathetically and non-judgmentally guiding us, keeping us accountable. 𝘐𝘵’𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘺 𝘸𝘦’𝘳𝘦 𝘶𝘱 𝘵𝘰 60% 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘱𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘦𝘳 𝘣𝘦𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘳𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘶𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘺 𝘱𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮—𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 "𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩𝘺 𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵." That’s why support groups work. It’s also why psychotherapy works, and why coaching works. It’s about deepening our knowledge and self-awareness while having someone to turn to for guidance, support, and accountability along the way. After all, we are the most social animals out there. 😏

One phenomenon I've been reflecting on recently that has been increasingly evident in my conversations with clients is the concept of self-abandonment. This behaviour manifests when individuals struggle to assert their own needs, people-please, find it challenging to communicate their thoughts and emotions authentically, and ultimately lose touch with their true selves. While it is important to hold regard for fellow human beings and what they bring, self-abandonment can have far-reaching consequences on one's mental and emotional well-being. Research shows that individuals who habitually neglect their own needs in favour of others may experience heightened levels of stress, anxiety, and even depression. This pattern of behaviour can also lead to difficulties in building and maintaining genuine relationships, as it hinders the ability to express true thoughts and feelings openly. Fortunately, psychotherapy and coaching can provide valuable opportunities for individuals to explore and understand their needs, validate their emotions and beliefs, and reclaim their authenticity. They can also learn to prioritise self-care, set boundaries, and cultivate a stronger sense of self-worth. By addressing the root causes of self-abandonment and learning healthier ways of relating to oneself and others, a person can begin a journey towards greater self-empowerment and a more fulfilling life. #leadermentalhealth #mindset #coaching #psychotherapy #therapeuticcoaching #executivecoach

❓Have you tried psychotherapy / talk therapy / counselling in the past? ✅ Have you found some benefit to having a place to talk, to have your feelings recognised and validated? 🤔 But have you found that the way you feel or behave does not really change? 😕 I hear this about 90% of the time from clients I work with. 🙏🏻 Hypnotherapy is often their last ditch attempt to make the changes they are so desperate to experience. 🥺 Freedom from anxious feelings, painful thoughts of hopelessness/despair/regret/shame/guilt for example. 🧠 No one has ever told them that actually the way we think, feel and act is coming from our deeper subconscious mind, running the way that we live our lives, completely outside of our awareness. 👏🏻 In hypnosis - simply a deep state of focused relaxation - we can access the subconscious mind. 🙌🏻 We can identify, challenge and change any Negative Core Beliefs that are sitting in there. 😬 It might sound kind of scary or perhaps a bit mystical to talk about being to be able access this deeper mind. 👌🏻 But actually it’s the natural way to deeply understand yourself - and come to realise that the way we think and therefore feel really can be changed. Our thoughts are not fixed. 🥳 After hypnotherapy, clients feel a tangible shift in their thought processes and are able to implement new and healthy behaviours - like setting boundaries with people for example - with more confidence and ease. 🆓 Click the link in my bio to have your Free No Obligation Consultation Call to learn how you can finally set yourself free of your life limiting Core Beliefs. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a psychological intervention that focuses on enhancing psychological #flexibility. Psychological flexibility involves the ability to be present in the moment, accept experiences without judgment, and take actions aligned with personal values. ACT helps individuals develop #mindfulness skills, accept difficult emotions, and reduce the influence of unhelpful thoughts. This approach emphasizes living a meaningful life by fostering six core processes: acceptance, cognitive defusion, contact with the present moment, self as context, values, and committed action. ACT can be used to treat a variety of chronic health illnesses as well as mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, stress, and chronic pain. It encourages individuals to embrace their thoughts and feelings rather than avoiding or fighting them. This approach teaches people to observe their thoughts from a distance (cognitive defusion) and identify their core values to guide their actions. For example, instead of focusing on eliminating fear of dying or relapse, ACT encourages people to pursue meaningful goals while acknowledging fear's presence. The method is beneficial and interesting because it shifts the focus from controlling negative thoughts to accepting them as part of human experience, which can reduce emotional suffering. It is definitely creating a deeper connection to values and purpose as an approach , and it promotes long-term behavioral change and resilience. Its emphasis on mindfulness and #acceptance makes it a valuable tool for improving mental well-being in everyday life and across various therapeutic settings especially when people are dealing with health issues and decline in the quality of their life! #HealthPsychology #PatientCentric #Biopsychosocial Dr. Christina Karapanou, MCIPD,MCI Health Psychologist Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapist

Those of us who are lucky enough to have found a good therapist, and are well resourced enough to continue working with them, count our blessings. This powerful relationship with a skilled therapist can make the difference between things falling apart completely; or, us being able to feel, process, learn, and adapt. Yet therapist burnout is extremely high in general, and it’s highest among those in their early years of practice. I knew this was true from personal experience, but it's also backed up by tons of research. If this is you, you might be interested in my conversation with psychotherapist Alison Taylor about how her grounding in somatic practices helped her move through her training as a therapist with more ease than she expected! Three key takeaways are: ✅ Burnout in the therapeutic training and professions should not be normalized. Solutions like slowing down the training process, integrating somatic awareness, and a few simple practices that we share in the interview are available now. ✅ Some sources of burnout are systemic and we can't "wellness" ourselves out of them. Burnout is not your fault, but we do need to face it and deal with it. ✅ The postural support you learn to access in The Alexander Technique is a great foundation for being present with other people - and that is the basis of all the healing that happens in therapy. Maybe it could be helpful for you too!
