REV’s Joel Harrington was recently featured in an RTO Insider LLC article from a panel discussion on the need for market structures in Maryland to attract and develop transmission-connected energy storage. With nearly 1.6 gigawatts of energy storage sitting in the PJM Queue slated for Maryland that can help alleviate high-capacity prices, check out REV’s recommendations for how to get this important resource online: https://lnkd.in/e5PZ3yiT #transmission #energystorage

Philip Silk, Conrad Energy’s Development Director, has contributed an article to Energy Intelligence. In the article entitled “Collaboration Required for UK Grid Transition Challenges”, he discusses the backlog in connections across both transmission and distribution, which is expected to exceed 800GW by the end of this year. To put that figure into context, that is more than four times as much as the installed capacity that the National Grid ESO expects to need by 2050. Whilst that might possibly sound like a good problem to have, the queue is actually clogged by “zombie” projects. Phil looks at how they may be identified and removed from the queue to expedite connection times for viable projects. To find out more about the proposed TM04+ process and how it may help, have a read of Phil’s article in Energy Intelligence https://lnkd.in/etihFARx. #energy #energytransition #gridconnection

It is imperative that we do what we can to accelerate the clean energy transition in a manner that is as cost-effective as possible, especially here in New England, where we regularly face high energy supply costs and challenges with winter reliability. The Concentric Energy Advisors and Data Coalition whitepaper makes it clear that avoiding overly time-consuming competitive solicitations for transmission projects can ultimately reduce some of the cost burden on our customers while bringing the project benefits to them sooner. #transmission #cleanenergyfuture #reliableenergy https://lnkd.in/ebcH8bgM

Day two of my new role in National Grid Electricity Transmission included the daunting deadline for consultation responses (yes - 'responses' plural!) to National Grid ESO's proposals for #ConnectionReform. The Target Model Option 4 ('TMO4') solution seeks to consider customer readiness much more strongly as a route to move projects through a gated connection process. Applying this approach to both new and existing applicants is vital, as we aspire to provide connections to the system **almost** as quickly as Ipswich Town FC getting promoted from League One to the Premier League! #UppaTowen Whilst developer readiness is important, it is vital that our reformed connection arrangements consider the wider strategic need to connect projects as well. The level of activity and investment by companies like ours to develop and build the electricity system - which is funded by all of us - is significant and needs to have a bigger picture in mind. The article below sets out our views on Reform, TMO4 and this strategic 'bigger picture'. A link to an exec summary of our consultation responses is also included. Please give it a read, and if you have any feedback on it, or just want to chat to us about your views on Reform, please contact my team or I and we'll gladly set something up. We look forward to continuing to work with ESO and wider industry to bring forward meaningful, long-lasting change.
Significant progress has already been made towards transforming the electricity system with a huge expansion in #cleanenergy. However, a rapid increase in the volume of projects wanting to plug in to the transmission network has led to a massively oversubscribed #gridconnections pipeline. We’re committed to tackling this and connecting clean energy as quickly as possible. We’re already taking action alongside National Grid ESO, transmission owners, distribution network operators, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and Ofgem to deliver the change that’s needed, and have now responded to the ESO’s latest consultation on proposals aimed at further reform. Read our response which recommends how the industry can go even faster and further and deliver connections reform to support progress towards a clean, reliable, and affordable energy system. https://natgrid.com/3c
