Thoughts after a day with Dimensional Fund Advisors. 1) Referring to Dimensional as "index plus" grossly understates the science and process that goes into what they do. 2) Why would someone invest in an index fund if there's a better way? The stats are powerful... 3) There are long periods when even a well tested premium doesn't work. Combining premiums helps. 4) Compounding small differences over long periods is awesome. 5) Geeking out for a day is good but trying to explain any of this to a civilian will cause serious MEGO (My Eyes Glaze Over). WITH-TREND TRADING Most of my posts show trading of my counter-trend model. This spreadsheet is my with-trend model, dating back to April. It is a hypothetical backtest using the same 2 contract setup as my counter-trend. The beauty of combining the two models is they run concurrently with the same capital, as a counter-trend and a with-trend trade will never trade at the same time. Two contracts require a $10,000 balance in my assumptions and this trading test showed a $5335 hypothetical gain over the 90 days with a max loss of less than 10% of original capital.
