Yesterday I was giving an update on the last 3.5 years of WeDo HR Support and I decided to start with the problem. Not the problem with the business - there are none, we're awesome in every way 😜 But the problem we solve...... 🛑 SME employers have very few rights when it comes to employment 🛑 Employment legislation changes twice per year so it's hard to keep up 🛑 The law is grey and it's hard and expensive 💰 to get a definitive answer 🛑 It's easy and expensive 😫 💰 to get it wrong One of our new clients said "Sarah, I'm just so relieved to not have to google - what to do when an employee is late/sick/pregnant." When a new team member joins, I schedule a 1:1 to talk about: - how they're feeling on first day. - any burning questions. - things that matter to them in life. - expectation of role. - 1:1 catch ups (my approach, how frequent they'd like it, and agree on what times work best). - general admin and I give a list of people to meet and start building relationships. Next time, I want to add - confirmation of salary package. - how pay works in the organization (cycle, benchmark, what's required for raises, etc.) - a reminder that it is okay to bring up pay with me anytime. What do you talk about in the initial 1:1s with new starters?

It’s AMP (Autonomy, Mastery, and Purpose) Week, and by the end of it, every employee will have walked through their goals, how they did, and what their focus is for the next trimester. Sound scary? It’s really not. It’s a concept from author Daniel Pink, and it’s all about celebration and message-repeating the feedback each employee got throughout the trimester.
