We often get judged based on the actions of others, not on our own. I've experienced this firsthand, especially when it comes to traveling and living independently. Despite holding a degree from a well-recognized university and being an adult fully capable of managing my own life, I’ve been judged for things that were never my doing. For a long time, I internalized these judgments, feeling frustrated and confused. After seeking professional help and going through therapy for over a year, I eventually gained clarity. The truth was, I wasn’t being judged for my actions—I was being judged for the actions of others, particularly other women. This realization came during a recent event. A guy at the party, who was a friend, got a little too clingy. But instead of questioning the situation, another woman approached me with judgment, assuming I was doing something inappropriate. She didn’t even check in with me; she just assumed. I was confused, and that’s when I remembered things I had heard and observed about her. She had been involved in an unethical situation involving a higher-up in the organization, and as I began to reflect, I realized that she was projecting her own actions and insecurities onto me. What’s more, I observed her behavior in other ways—choosing hard liquor, engaging in questionable practices, and acting in ways that seemed to align more with personal gain than merit. And I understood. She wasn’t judging me for what I had done; she was judging me based on her own experiences and biases, thinking that everyone operated in the same way she did. What frustrated me was how her actions were perpetuating the stereotype that women will do anything to succeed, including compromising their values. It’s a harmful narrative that women like her are contributing to, and it makes it harder for women who truly earn their success to be seen for their abilities. The real lesson I took from all this is that it’s important not to let others’ judgments—based on their own actions or insecurities—define you. I’m committed to building my career based on hard work, passion, and integrity. But speaking your mind isn't always easy. It can be met with resistance, disapproval, and even ridicule. It can be uncomfortable, challenging, and even downright scary. But it's also necessary, empowering, and ultimately, liberating. When you speak your mind, you open yourself up to a world of possibilities. You connect with others on a deeper level, build genuine relationships, and inspire others to do the same. You gain confidence in yourself and your abilities, and you become a more powerful force in the world. Of course, the journey of speaking your mind is not without its challenges. There will be times when you doubt yourself, when you feel silenced, and when you question the impact of your words. But it's important to remember that your voice matters. Your perspective is valuable, and your experiences are worth sharing. So don't be afraid to speak your mind. Raise your voice, share your truth, and be the change you want to see in the world. Here are a few tips to help you on your journey:👇 1. Find your voice. What are you passionate about? What do you believe in? 2. Once you know what matters to you, you can start to speak your truth. 3. Don't be afraid to be different. It's okay to have your own opinions and beliefs. 4. Don't be afraid to stand up for what you believe in, even if it's unpopular. 5. Be respectful of others. Even when you disagree with someone, you can still be respectful of their opinions. 6. Be persistent. Speaking your mind takes courage and practice. 7. Don't give up on yourself, even when it's tough. 8. Find your support system. Surround yourself with people who will encourage you and support you on your journey. Remember, you are not alone. There are millions of women around the world who are speaking their minds and making a difference. Join them, and together, we can create a world where all women are heard.

How many times a day do you think you say the word ‘sorry’? By all accounts it’s a much overused – and thus devalued – phrase.  I caught myself automatically apologising at a meeting yesterday for asking a question. Kicked myself afterwards..... In my defence, I realise that it’s a result of powerful social conditioning, and I know well that women apologise more often than the norm. Often for things outside their control or matters that don’t warrant an apology but where ‘sorry’ can seem a more gentle entrée to a conversation.  Women often use the ‘sorry’ word for simply doing their job. For asking questions. For having opinions. For taking space. There’s a silent pressure to be competent but not threatening, authoritative but not bossy, confident but not arrogant. Very hard to call this atmosphere out without sounding...well…a bit sensitive. It's a double bind. It matters, though.  Because over apologising can lead others to perceive us as less capable, and it can lock in a subtle power distortion that could otherwise be balanced out with more confident use of language. So I have a few phrases that I have to hand when I feel the compulsion to open a comment with ‘sorry’: 🔘 When disagreeing: "I see it differently" “I have a different perspective that I’d like to share” 🔘  When asking questions: "I'd like to understand..."  🔘  In crowds: "Excuse me" or "Coming through" 🔘 When you need something "I need help with this"  🔘  Asking someone to be clearer "Could you clarify that?" These are small nudges, but repetition builds a habit - as well as a shift in the perceptions of the listeners. Do give it a go. If not for you, do it for others. After all, the next generation of women is watching.
