From office stress to neck pains: My journey to finding relief 🧘♂️✨ In my previous role as an office professional, I experienced firsthand the physical toll of deadlines and prolonged screen time. The outcome? Persistent neck and shoulder tensions that ultimately led to cervical degeneration at C5/C6 – a clear reminder of the hazards of prolonged laptop use. Nerve compression, hand numbness, and pins and needles became nightly adversaries, escalating my mental stress. Enter Pilates, recommended by my physiotherapist. 🙌 The practice became my go-to, providing calm amidst the chaos of corporate life. Focusing on perfecting movements and tuning into cues offered a welcome distraction from work-related stressors. This may come as a surprise… but before #chronicpain hit me in my late 20s, I had never even heard of #Pilates. 😲 I’ll never forget the feeling of that first Pilates class and how “right” it felt. In fact, I was so impressed with Pilates, that I decided to train to become a #StottPilates teacher. For years I taught this highly-respected approach and watched as 100s of my clients benefitted, just like I had. Something bothered me though... as time went by, I noticed that the new clients were less mobile and less physically capable. 🤔 I felt there was something missing so I started to add #naturalmovement into my classes to undo the negative effects of modern living. Again, I watched as 100s of my clients benefitted, just like I had. A few more years passed and I developed a chronic nerve pain radiating down from my #neck to my arm. I ended up being referred for a neck fusion operation. That stopped me in my tracks. I did more research and came across #fascialrelease work. Amazingly (to me), it worked and I avoided the dreaded neck fusion operation!🔥 Again, I added this approach to my classes and watched as 100s of clients benefitted, just like I had. So, today, my classes bear little resemblance to the ones I taught as a newly-qualified Stott Pilates teacher. And that's something I'm really proud of! 😍I've constantly developed as a teacher and never stopped questioning my approach. Even if you've got an amazing Pilates teacher, times have changed. The „raw material“ your teacher is working with is different; people are more sedentary, more stressed and less attuned to their bodies.😕 For a whole body solution, you need a holistic approach to truly UNDO the effects of modern living on our bodies and minds.
