Over the years, I’ve worked with thousands of employees. As leaders, we all have team members who sometimes get under our skin. They do good work, so we let it go—but have you ever stopped to consider why that dynamic exists? Often, it’s not their fault. Maybe they’re dealing with insecurities or need something from you to feel supported. Looking back, I've realized that a simple gesture—a conversation where I offer reassurance, let them know they’re doing a good job, and trust them to excel—can make a world of difference. That little bit of encouragement can help shift behaviors and build confidence. Remember, your team members have needs and aspirations, just like you. Small adjustments in how you communicate with them can go a long way in reducing tension and building a more harmonious work environment. Be mindful of what your team needs, and offer that support. ❤️🩹 Finding joy at work ❤️🩹 At the Schwartz Rounds today in Bathurst Hospital, I co-facilitated the rounds and the sharing from staff was so uplifting ❤️ It is a really special space where staff from any department are welcome to come and attend and contribute if they wish. There is a sense of #emotionalsafety in the room. The Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare Schwartz Rounds are evidence based forums to support social and emotional wellbeing for staff. Today marks the 4th round at Bathurst in the pilot we are doing. The stories of finding joy were varied, relatable and engaging. I was thinking on the drive home how some of these are #antiburnout factors. The 6 workplace factors that increase vulnerability to burnout are (per Maslach et al): 😩 Unmanageable workload….job strain. 🙌 lack of community. The sense of community in the room today was 💪 😩 Lack of autonomy. Controllables vs Uncontrollables 😕 Misalignment of values. In the workplace or between you and the workplace. 😤 Lack of fairness - that’s decided by you. 🙌 Lack of recognition. How do you go accepting praise? It’s something I have had to work on in my #burnoutrecovery journey. #burnoutprevention #findingthejoy #compassionforclinicians #schwartzrounds

In my southern accent "yall better come get 'cha some!" Recipe: Inspirational Vision, Motivational Mission, heapings of Safety, Teamwork, Compassion, Excellence. Pour in the full bag of heart, soul, care and healing. Stir until you see and feel a texture of belonging, inclusion and engagement. You will know it when you feel it. Depending on your (workplace) taste, move the mixture to skillet on high heat or place into the pre-heated stove for a slow bake. Either way, the environment will create an aroma that smells like, tastes like and looks like a great place to work and might even be recognized for how well all the ingredients come together. Why do we work? If we're lucky, we find a work environment that we click with. Our coworkers energize us, the work is enriching, and we grow personally and professionally. We work because it fulfills us. These things are important. But at the root, we work to secure our necessities. Food, shelter, healthcare. UnitedHealthcare is in the business of protecting people's livelihoods, including healthy, balanced lifestyles. National Wellness Month may be over, but people spend about a third of their lives at work. Lived experience is essential to Butterfly – and many of our staff have either supported a loved one or experienced and recovered from eating disorders themselves. In this article for HRD Australia, Butterfly’s Head of People and Culture Therese Coffey highlights the benefits of hiring #employees with #livedexperience – largely because they bring heightened passion and dedication to the job, but also because of the hope they provide to the people we support, demonstrating that full recovery is possible.
