As part of the Army’s network transformation efforts, the service is preparing for the second phase of its Armored Formation Network (AFN) OTM Pilot, supported by the 1st Infantry Division, to inform the right combination of emerging commercial network technologies that best support these units and their fast-paced missions. “This new equipment is providing a definite advantage,” said Lt. Col. Marreo Burch, senior division communications officer (G6) for 1st ID. “To give the commanding general and other senior leaders the ability to move around the battlefield and stay connected — especially with the adversary’s ability to detect the command post from just a sheer electromagnetic spectrum standpoint — increases our survivability [and lethality].” … What a great initiative by the U.S. Army to get on the move networking capabilities into Armored Brigade Combat Teams. Proud to lead the industry team working with the U.S. Army – read the full story at Army.mil: https://lnkd.in/g5bUGKKb #Innovation #Teamwork #DefenseTech

🇺🇸🤩 Following two canceled replacement programs for the M2 Bradley, the US Army is making headway in developing its Mechanized Infantry Combat Vehicle. The XM-30 combat vehicle, previously known as the Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle, is in its detailed design phase and expected to achieve Milestone B by the second quarter of fiscal year 2025. As a next-generation military platform, it is designed to have the option to operate with a crew or autonomously as it engages in close combat and delivers decisive lethality. It will feature a modular open system architecture and is set to become the US Army’s “first ground combat vehicle designed using state-of-the-art digital engineering tools and techniques,” according to a Congressional Research Service report. #military #army #defense #technology #innovation #usarmy #xm30

The spotlight is on maneuver commanders and their units as the Army transforms in contact to prepare for large scale combat operations. Each experiment and exercise is building upon the last to accelerate command and control (C2) warfighting systems, all underpinned by the Army's number 1 transformation priority - the network - as discussed during #TEM12 with two commanders whose voices are influencing the Army's approach to modern battle. This chapter examines the extent to which the American Expeditionary Forces’ tactical doctrine, training, and battlefield performance reflected General John J. Pershing's open-warfare concept during the Meuse-Argonne offensive. Elastic formations, fire-and-maneuver, infiltration, and improvisation proved to be effective alternatives to the trench warfare that had dominated the Western Front since fall 1914. Historical treatments of the AEF published before the 1990s provide sweeping assessments of battlefield performance that draw conclusions concerning the overall American contribution to the defeat of Imperial Germany. These works spend little time exploring specific aspects of AEF tactical doctrine, training, and combat performance. Recent scholarship seeks to gain a better understanding of America's impact on the Great War by evaluating all facets of the AEF. This essay fits into this trend by examining a brief but critical period in the U.S. Army's tactical development. https://lnkd.in/dqQGeGVg #militaryhistory

With multiple inputs from the squadron staff, the staff decided to create a fake command post footprint using less-critical vehicles and equipment. This led to creation of the deception tactical operations center, or mock TOC. Following Magruder’s Principle, which states that it’s easier to maintain an enemy’s preexisting beliefs than try to change their beliefs, we aimed to exploit enemy assumptions about traditional command posts. #ReadMore... #tacticaloperations #commandpost #squadron #staff #operation #equipment #posts #maintain #try
