So, this is my first time writing a post of this nature. In many instances, individuals refer to a career change or position change as the “end of this chapter” in their career. In my case, after 22 years with the San Jose Sharks, this situation feels more like the end of a J. R. R. Tolkien trilogy! I have spent my entire professional career thus far with the Sharks, and I am acutely aware how fortunate I am to share that fact. As I look ahead to this next stage of my career, I want to share my gratitude to those within the organization that shaped my experience and prepared me for this opportunity: · James Hamnett – thanks for taking that chance on a 18 year-old college freshman looking to put on the “blue coat” of the Ushering/Guest Services team · Mike McCarroll – thank you for giving me that first opportunity in a Guest Services support staff role and showing me what it meant to “put in the work” · To every part-time staff member I worked alongside at SAP Center (Ushering, Ticketing, Parking, Suites, Building Services, Engineering, Aramark, etc.) – you’re the reason that SAP Center is a premiere destination to experience an event. Thank you for bringing that joy to every shift · For every leader, director, and manager I reported to in the Sharks Partnerships Department: thank you for your insights, patience, guidance, and advice as I matured from a Service Manager to a Partnership Marketing Manager (Eric Mastalir, Malcolm M. Bordelon, Reza Wiriaatmadja, John Castro, Jennifer Birmingham, Jennifer Kosai, Flavil Hampsten, Brian Towers, Doug Bentz, Patrick Hooper, Greg Schwartz, Michael Ford, Laurie B., Mark Foxton) · To the Sharks Leadership Team, lead by Jonathan Becher: thank you for creating an environment and culture that allows Team Teal to “think beyond the rink,” re-imagine our experiences, and push boundaries on our ideas and thought processes · To the Sharks Partnerships Team – Mark, Laurie, Mike Hollywood, Mary Edman, Safia Diab, Kevin Hindenach, Nick Moe, Nikhil Patel, Collin O'Grady, Kimberly Pashby: you are the reason working in Partnerships was such a joy. You’ll always be my extended family, and as I told you, I will always be your biggest fan. Thank you for everything For the “TL:DR” crowd, every person I worked alongside over the past 22 years with the Sharks had a profound impact on my career and maturation as a professional. As this “trilogy” officially ends, I take lifelong bonds, friendships and memories with me. Thank you for making me a #SharkForLife.
We’ll miss you greatly! Best of luck - looking forward to catching you in action over the hill.
Sincerest of congratulations once again, my friend! Here's to the start of an amazing new LOTR-style chapter in Santa Cruz. Go Sea Dubs!
Patrick, I could not be more thankful for the time I got to learn from you about all things partnerships with the Sharks, and the ins and outs of the building. You have big things coming and while we will miss you, I can’t wait to cheer you on! Best wishes to you!
That framed blue coat is something else, haha! So cool. What a run, Luck. Excited for the next chapter!
