Coming fresh off of the APHSA -- American Public Human Services Association Economic Mobility & Well-Being Conference last week, this report published by Camber Collective really resonated with me. Mobility Experiences is a research series concentrated on understanding pathways toward economic mobility. The research is focused on life experiences, societal perceptions, and investment flow. The insights presented are intended to serve as a tool for funders, practitioners, and advocates to inform positive change to create a brighter future for all. #EconomicMobility #UpwardMobility #Equity #ClientExperience #SystemsofEngagement https://lnkd.in/evMaJs_J

New publication alert 📢 What is the role of businesses and other economic organisations in bringing about degrowth transformations? In our new book chapter, 'Economic Organizations and the Transformation Towards Degrowth', Ben Robra and I explore this question. Most relevant research focused on the degrowth-compatibility of individual organisations. While this has created a number of useful degrowth principles for organisations, there has been a lack of consideration of the wider structural changes that degrowth implies. We make the case for two systemic organisational principles that hitherto have found little attention in the literature on degrowth organisations: not-for-profit and non-accumulation. Ultimately, we argue that organisations must be active political agents for a degrowth transformation. https://lnkd.in/dQ9gCvGt #degrowth #notforprofiteconomy #nonaccumulation #sustainablefuture

Population health and wellbeing depends on equitable community conditions such as a healthy local economy. Where all residents, especially those historically denied opportunities for wealth creation, can participate fully. Growing racial, geographic, and class inequalities within the U.S. economy beg the question: are common #economicdevelopment policies/practices working? Robert Wood Johnson Foundation partnered with Lincoln Institute of Land Policy to examine commonly held beliefs and explore alternatives that could improve quality of life and social conditions at the local level. #healthequity #communitydevelopment #healthycommunities #racialequity #socialdeterminantsofhealth
A new Lincoln Institute research project supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is introducing a three-part framework for thinking about economic development—one that targets resident health, equity, and wellbeing as the explicit goals of such investments, rather than just growth. Learn more in Jon Gorey’s latest Land Lines piece, featuring perspectives from project lead Haegi Kwon and Director, Equity and Opportunity, Jessie Grogan; Invest Appalachia’s Andrew Crosson; and Russell: A Place of Promise’s Cassandra Webb and Theresa Zawacki. https://lnkd.in/eBP5aF2Z

THE FORCE BEHIND THE CHANGE: UNSUNG HEROES OF THE THIRD SECTOR: In this new series, RealWorth will be shining its social impact spotlight on a third-sector organisation which is bringing about meaningful lasting social change to communities in need. These unsung heroes may be flying under the radar, but their contribution to society is often underestimated and undervalued. The series of articles will highlight the work of these pro-social heroes, and share some of the challenges they face. We hope this will encourage people, businesses and funders to understand what we can do, individually and collectively, to support and sustain the valuable and impactful work they do. In the second article of the series, RealWorth spoke to Anton Clarke, Director of Social Enterprise at The Reader UK, to discuss how the organisation has been inspiring a 'Reading Revolution' from its hub in Calderstones here in Liverpool. I'm excited to share my involvement in an impactful documentary on financial mobility, produced by Camber Collective. This documentary highlights the experiences of over 4,000 Americans and identifies 28 key life experiences that drive economic mobility. As someone who has navigated 17 years in foster care, earned a master's degree, and faced student debt while living with Type 1 Diabetes, my story is featured to shed light on the challenges and triumphs in the journey towards economic stability. Key findings include: * Job training programs can boost earnings by up to 40%. * Avoiding involuntary unemployment can prevent a 30% reduction in earnings. * Living in high-mobility neighborhoods can increase lifetime income by 8-14%. Join me in learning more about how we can reinvigorate economic mobility for future generations.
