Modern voting systems are not only for this election and this country. They are for all elections and all countries. What modern systems add is registration of voting materials, as well as voters, to enable public evidence of the chain of custody of ballots and real-time audits to detect, investigate, and adjudicate suspicious activity. That addition improves security and transparency compared to traditional methods. It benefits civil societies by reducing controversial results, and is a compelling reason for statewide, nationwide, and worlwide application. The alternative is what exists today. If that is good enough, do nothing. If not, ask some questions. Who is voting? How is a ballot processed from creation? How is it known that each registered ballot was marked by a registered voter? 🔎 Unveiling the Gaps in Georgia's Electoral Audit 🗳️: Our latest findings shed light on the transparency and inclusivity challenges within Georgia's electoral audit process. Here's what you need to know: 👇 Selection of the Auditing Firm 🏢: The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia unilaterally selected PRO V&V, an American auditing company, through a non-transparent process. Potential Conflict of Interest ⚠️: PRO V&V has a longstanding collaboration with Smartmatic, the supplier of Georgia's voting machines, raising questions about the audit's impartiality. Limited Scope of Device Testing 🔍: The audit tested only 12 devices from each category—tablets, verification machines, and vote counters—potentially insufficient for a comprehensive assessment. Exclusion of Observers 🚪🔒: The audit process was closed to observer organizations and opposition party members, limiting external oversight. Restricted Communication ❌📞: PRO V&V addressed questions solely from officials of the ruling Georgian Dream party within the CEC, excluding other stakeholders. 📃Scientific paper: Is the JCJ voting system really coercion-resistant? Abstract: International audience; Coercion-resistance is a security property of electronic voting, often considered as a must-have for high-stake elections. The JCJ voting scheme, proposed in 2005 by Juels, Catalano and Jakobsson, is still the reference paradigm when designing a coercion-resistant protocol. We highlight a weakness in JCJ that is also present in all the systems following its general structure. This comes from the procedure that precedes the tally, where the trustees remove the ballots that should not be counted. This phase leaks more information than necessary, leading to potential threats for the coerced voters. Fixing this leads to the notion of cleansing-hiding, that we apply to form a variant of JCJ that we call CHide. One reason for the problem not being seen before is the fact that the associated formal definition of coercion-resistance was too weak. We therefore propose a definition that takes into account more behaviors such as revoting or the addition of fake ballots by authorities. We then prove that CHide is coercion-resistant for this definition. Keep in mind results can shift dramatically throughout election night, depending on which ballots are counted first. Misleading information is often created to confuse or provoke an emotional reaction. If you feel this, it may be a sign to slow down, pause and do some research. Consider how trustworthy your source is. If you don’t see multiple news outlets reporting a story, it is a sign to wait before sharing.
