October 1988 Account Manager Burr Brown October 2024 Account Manager Altera I think career progression is not linear, especially when viewed over decades 🤔 The starting and end points in my career, may look similar, but believe me, there were many highs and lows along the way, in that 36 year journey. I moved into technical sales in 1988, with analogue semiconductor company, Burr Brown. This was after 6 years as a design-development engineer. I think its safe to say that technical sales was my true vocation in life. My 6 years at Burr Brown, taught me the fundamentals of technical sales; an appreciation of different applications and customer design challenges. I am now in the autumn of my career, having recently joined Altera as an Account Manager. The difference between when I started at Burr Brown, and where I am at Altera, is the experience I bring with me. Additionally, technology has moved on tremendously in those 36 years. Many of todays major technology companies were not even born in 1988. I know what I want, and conversely I know what I don't want. I have done all the Middle -Management stuff....building teams, running Countries, the constant feeding of information into Exec Management.....all the things that took me away from customer contact.. Its time to get back to fundamentals that have served me well over the years..... 👉 Focus on my customers, walk in their shoes... 👉 Look at the big picture, but pay attention to details... 👌 Do what you say you are going to do.. 👉 Be reliable and consistent 🖕 Don't stress over what you cannot influence 🤓 Stay curious and keep learning 🤟 Enjoy the journey Ps...If I could go back to my younger self...the 3 words I would say would be..."Buy Apple Stock" 😉 Disclaimer...I don't own any stocks and shares
