Should nonprofits take a stand on political issues? It’s a topic that sparks debate. On one hand, nonprofits have the power to influence change and advocate for social justice. On the other, they risk losing donor support or credibility by engaging in political conversations. At Pledge Software, we believe nonprofits have a unique responsibility to advocate for the causes they represent—whether that’s fighting for equality, climate action, or human rights. However, striking the right balance between advocacy and neutrality is key. What do you think? Should nonprofits remain apolitical, or is taking a stand part of their mission? 💬 Drop your thoughts below! #NonprofitDebate #PoliticalAdvocacy #TechForGood #PledgeSoftware #SocialChange #NonprofitLeadership

Today we celebrate #EarthDay. While everyone is affected by environmental issues, some communities are disproportionately impacted (i.e. Black, Hispanic, Indigenous & tribal communities). We're committed to amplifying the voices of all communities and sharing their insights for environmental justice action. Do you or your organization have a story about an environmental injustice where you live and how you have worked with your community to create a healthier, more just environment? By sharing your story, others can learn from your experience. We're seeking up to five collaborators (nonprofit organizations and/or individuals) from across the United States. Each collaborator will work with the center for up to three months and produce their story over the next year. Interested? Learn more and share your story: https://ow.ly/kLyx50RlE5z

Join us for the next installment of our webinar series, featuring Sam Daley-Harris. Sam founded the anti-poverty lobby RESULTS in 1980, co-founded the Microcredit Summit Campaign in 1995, and founded Civic Courage in 2012. The 2024 edition of his book Reclaiming Our Democracy: Every Citizen’s Guide to Transformational Advocacy was named an editor’s pick by Publisher’s Weekly BookLife. Kirkus Reviews wrote: "Overall, [the author's] analysis of effective action is as persuasive as it is accessible, and his call to democratic participation is inspiring. A handbook for aspiring activists that readers will find to be both inspiring and practical." Sam has been interviewed on NPR’s Here and Now and 1A and on PBS’s Laura Flanders and Friends. Ashoka founder Bill Drayton said, “Sam Daley-Harris is one of the certified great social entrepreneurs of the last decades.” Almost everyone shies away from advocacy as a way to make a difference. We donate to climate change organizations, but we don't meet with a member of Congress or write a letter to the editor. We donate to anti-hunger organizations, groups dedicated to racial justice, and many others, but we don't become advocates on those issues beyond signing an online petition or going to an occasional rally. Why? Because most of us see advocacy as too hard or too frustrating, too complicated, or too partisan, too dirty or too time-consuming, too ineffective or too costly. But what if that's all wrong? What if deep engagement dissolves discouragement and can actually bring joy? What if you can become an advocate for a cause you care about and feel fulfilled, not frustrated? And what if engaging as an advocate is essential to protecting our democracy? Sam Daley-Harris’ book, Reclaiming Our Democracy: Every Citizen’s Guide to Transformational Advocacy, provides a powerful way to make a difference and heal our democracy in the process. It's not the only solution needed, but it is one essential, missing piece: citizens awakening to their power. Where: Virtual, register via Zoom When: Tue, Feb 11 at 9:00 AM Pacific (US and Canada) #Democracy #Advocacy #webinar

Addressing Systemic Inequities in Los Angeles: A Call for Genuine Advocacy In Los Angeles, systemic racism deeply affects youth of color, leading to higher rates of drug use, overdoses, homelessness, incarceration, and health issues. It’s concerning to see individuals and organizations, often unaffected by these issues, seeking grants and donations without genuinely supporting these communities. To create real change, it’s crucial to prioritize authenticity in philanthropy. We need to work directly with vulnerable populations, amplifying their voices and addressing their needs. This means demanding accountability and transparency from those claiming to help. Let’s focus on true partnerships that empower rather than exploit, ensuring our efforts lead to meaningful, lasting change for justice-impacted communities.

🌟 Support HOMES: Building a Brighter Future for Our Youth 🌟 At HOMES, we are on a mission to create safe, inclusive, and empowering spaces for our local youth, focusing on Two Spirit leadership and community building. In a time when high-risk situations are becoming more prevalent, HOMES is stepping up to make a difference—and now, we need your help to take the next big step. Who We Are & What We Do HOMES is a grassroots organization dedicated to supporting youth through culturally relevant programming and safe spaces. In our first year alone, we’ve: - Hosted Two Spirit-led circles every week, providing connection and support. - Served weekly meals to ensure no youth goes hungry. - Brought the first-ever Two Spirit Powwow to Red Deer, celebrating identity, culture, and resilience. We started providing community meals once a month, which all are welcome to join. Continued to offer 24-hour support to any community member in need. And here’s something amazing—everyone in HOMES is a volunteer! That means every dollar you send goes directly to protecting 2SLGTBQIA youth, youth at risk, or youth who need a support system. What’s Next? 2025 is shaping up to be even bigger! HOMES is ready to secure a permanent space—a home—for our youth and programs. But we can’t do it alone. Your support can help us create a safe haven where youth can thrive. How You Can Help Donate – Send contributions to [email protected]. GoFundMe – Contribute to our campaign and share it with your network. Wish List – Shop directly for the items we need most. Every purchase makes a difference. Together, we can build a brighter, safer, and more inclusive future. Let’s make 2025 the year that HOMES truly becomes a home. 💜🏡 Thank you for your support! https://lnkd.in/gBXiEaVX #Queer #ProtectTransKids #TwoSpirit #Metis #Unhoused #RedDeer #CentralAlberta

Collective giving engages civic action. Giving circles are about time, talent, treasure, testimony and ties. And about more than giving, it is about change. A role in civic life is not a choice, it is a responsibility. Giving circles are spaces for learning and advocacy. Amplifies voices. Empowers everyday citizens to reclaim their role in democracy. We are more powerful together. #StepUp for your community, for democracy. - Sara Lomelin of Philanthropy Together, speaking at #DevexWorld2024

Looking at the wide array of media analysis and discourse that has emerged out of the 2024 presidential election, it is easy to get lost in a specific popular talking point or voter trend, while simultaneously losing sight of the bigger picture. So many stories focus on why voters acted the way they did, but in these narratives, we lose some of the nuance that informs and shapes wider community discussions about policy and impact. I appreciated how this article pointed at a contradiction that arises where often marginalized people are blamed for their own marginalization. If we want to combat these myths we need to start by looking at what issues matter most to communities and organizations around them. Racial justice, economic justice, and environmental justice are deeply intertwined, and arriving at just outcomes means building movements that are broadly inclusive and mutually supportive. #Nonprofit #Justice #Culture #Community
