In a world increasingly transformed by AI, many leaders wonder: how do we balance adopting the latest technologies with maintaining regulatory compliance? Hear what Chip Lynch, Senior Director of Software Engineering at Reveal HealthTech, has to say on that! Earlier this month, Salim Afshar, MD, DMD, FACS, Chip Lynch, Ramesh Sridharan, and Alexis Isabelle had an amazing time discussing the applications of Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and GenAI safety in our latest edition of the 'Reveal AI in Healthcare & Life Sciences' webinar series - Where Medicine Meets Machine Learning. Each step brings us closer to the exciting concept of AI singularity ;). I can't help but get excited when I see start-ups making significant strides and disrupting markets. I recently came across this video from jason rugolo, CEO of IYO, and it was beautiful to see all of the major AI breakthroughs performing in real-time. A device was displayed that utilized a combination of a computational scene analysis algorithm, a robust object detection algorithm, a noise cancellation algorithm, and robust ASR and Translation models, all in real-time. Additionally, it included a TTS model with a speaker transition model applied, which I have yet to see in a commercial product like this. While I anticipated these advancements, I was pleasantly surprised by their rapid pace. Collaborating with industry leaders has shattered my expectations, and I can confidently say that we are on the brink of a new era. What does this mean? It means major Breakthroughs are on the Horizon, and groundbreaking advancements are transforming how we interact with technology. This means that we, as a society and a civilization, must prepare to scale with these technologies properly. But that is a topic for another post; this one was to let you know that we are very close to singularity if you ask me ;) #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #ML #Objectdetection #ASR #TTS #TechInnovation #FutureTech #MachineLearning

Saturday reading: Building Machines that Learn and Think with People https://lnkd.in/dE9qxZN5 Main Insights: - AI as Thought Partners: The research outlines how AI can evolve from being tools for thought to actual partners in thought, capable of understanding human goals, intentions, and cognitive limitations. - Collaborative Cognition: The team emphasizes the importance of collaborative cognition, where AI systems work alongside humans in domains like programming, medicine, storytelling, and more, enhancing the efficiency and quality of human decision-making. - Human-Centric Design: Effective AI thought partners must meet three key criteria: they should understand us, be understandable by us, and share a common understanding of the world. - Ethical and Practical Considerations: The research also highlights the need to carefully design AI systems that enhance human capabilities while considering the risks of over-reliance, ethical misalignment, and potential misuse. - Applications Across Domains: From programming assistants that understand a programmer’s intent to medical AI that collaborates with doctors in diagnosing and treating patients, the potential applications of AI thought partners are vast and impactful. Abstract: What do we want from machine intelligence? We envision machines that are not just tools for thought, but partners in thought: reasonable, insightful, knowledgeable, reliable, and trustworthy systems that think with us. Current artificial intelligence (AI) systems satisfy some of these criteria, some of the time. In this Perspective, we show how the science of collaborative cognition can be put to work to engineer systems that really can be called “thought partners,” systems built to meet our expectations and complement our limitations. We lay out several modes of collaborative thought in which humans and AI thought partners can engage and propose desiderata for human-compatible thought partnerships. Drawing on motifs from computational cognitive science, we motivate an alternative scaling path for the design of thought partners and ecosystems around their use through a Bayesian lens, whereby the partners we construct actively build and reason over models of the human and world. #AI #MachineLearning #Innovation #CollaborativeAI #CognitiveScience

🚀 Kicking off #INS2024 with a reality check from Jeffrey Rogers at IBM Research! 🧠💡 After a decade in neuromodulation, it's time to confront some hard truths. While we celebrate advancements in AI and large language models, are we glossing over the real challenges in applying these technologies in medicine? 🤔 AI has transformed from expert-driven systems to foundational models that no longer require expert input. But let's not fool ourselves – these machines aren’t thinking; they're calculating. And when it comes to medical data, we're far from having 'big data'—medical records are yet still too messy, and the real patient data doesn't fit neatly into our algorithms. Yet, there's hope. The real revolution might just lie in personalized neuromodulation, leveraging AI to tailor therapies precisely to individual needs based on real-world, noisy data. This is where the future is headed, not in the oversized computational models but in smart, focused applications that genuinely improve patient outcomes. As we dive deeper into this congress, let's ask the tough questions: How can we push the boundaries of neuromodulation with AI without overselling the dream? How do we ensure these technologies make a tangible difference in patients' lives? Let's not just ride the AI hype train. Let's steer it in the right direction. 🚂💥 #neuromodulation #AI #healthcareinnovation #medicaltechnology

AI has taken the world by storm. Seemingly overnight, generative AI has embedded itself across industries and is impacting millions of people. This rapid change in our technology has raised larger questions of how we can ensure that these tools are not controlled by a handful of existing actors. That’s why we’re inviting legislative members, staff, and advocates to join us on Friday, April 19th in Sacramento for the next event in our AI Education Series: AI and Competition. Experts will explore how the attention, interest, and investment in Al could further concentrate power and economic inequity. 1wInteresting thoughts, though I'd seen papers on neural scaling laws that see an an inverse exponential performance benefit as the dataset, model size and compute increase - that's a bit at odds with the optimistic exponential upswing on the purple sector. Not to say AI can't improve areas of healthcare but general graphs like this are a bit optimistic! https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/other/openai-reportedly-facing-issues-with-its-new-ai-model-is-a-red-flag-for-the-entire-industry/ar-AA1tWuS4
