Just a couple of weeks out from #ALPSP24 and there are some great sessions I've earmarked for my visit. My picks so far are... Wednesday - KEYNOTE: Scholarly Publishing in the Era of Open Access and Generative AI. A topic very close to 67 Bricks heart, and one I've had some fab conversations on already with our team. Thursday - Session 6b: Make Better Decisions. Uncover Insights from Your Marketing Data Gotta love a data-driven marketing strategy. Featuring the fabulous Lou Peck and Claire Webber, two people I always have time to listen to, this is essential for anyone who is interested in getting closer to their customers. Friday - Session 11: What do Industry Leaders Really Think? This session, where five industry leaders will be reacting to the themes of the conference, promises to be an interesting one! No doubt AI will be a big topic, as well as the ongoing battle for relevancy for both smaller society publishers and larger, for-profit companies, with some aspects of the OA movement continuing to push a narrative of publishers being 'nice to have' instead of essential to the preservation of the scholarly record. This week has been busy for Jennifer Schivas-Porter! On Tuesday she joined the InPublishing webinar on AI and yesterday she chaired the first Renewd AI Strategy Council. In both sessions, the use of AI to scale your content production - especially into new media types - was a key discussion. Here's what Jennifer had to say about the topic, care of the In Publishing newsletter... "Creating entirely new content or data sets to power products is very resource intensive, so using AI to repackage or to reframe existing content into new products and services makes sense. With that in mind, you need to start with a clear understanding of what data and content you already have and then think about how you might layer in information from different content types or external data to add depth, context and new perspectives." This is something we've worked with clients of all sizes to do - understand their existing assets and ensure they are in the right architectural shape, before enriching them to create new unmissable data products.
