❓Why is brand creation so difficult for me❓ As I was analysing the impressions from my last post, I started wondering why personal branding feels like such a challenge. In strategy implementation, everything can be broken down into actionable steps that are measured, adjusted, and optimised based on data-driven insights. Yet, when it comes to building a personal brand—a process that should follow similar logic—I am struggling. Why am I comfortable solving complex business problems but hesitant when it comes to something seemingly straightforward: consistently communicating my skills, experiences, values, and personality to a target audience? With strategy, despite its complexity, there’s a clear roadmap: ✅ Identify a problem ✅ Conduct research ✅ Develop an action plan ✅ Implement, measure, adjust, and review ✅ Close it off and move on to the next project But personal branding never feels 'done'. The action plan seems endless—so many topics to cover, countless formats to explore, and the constant pressure to keep content consistent and relevant. Is there ever a point where you can confidently say: "This is it. I’ve built my brand, and I’m happy with it!" Perhaps the only way forward is to experiment—to test different formats, see what resonates, and refine along the way? How do you approach personal branding? 10 ways to improve your brand #1 Have a clear process In branding many founders don't follow a logical structure or clear process but just start somewhere and work with different people on different branding topics. This leads to confusion, wasted money and time, and finally to a chaotic brand they don't even understand themselves. #2 Stop curing symptoms Most founders work on their brand very much on the surface. They want a catchy name, a modern UI design, but they never ask themselves the tough questions you have to clarify on the basis of the brand. #3 Emotion Find the emotional trigger of your brand. Can be purpose, mission, vision, values, story. What is the emotional drive for people to join the ride? #4 Listen Your brand is your connection to your audience. Really understand what drives people and think about how you can make a difference for them. That's how you build a brand people don't want to live without #5 Stop defining your brand by the product Honestly no one cares about the product and it's features. But people care about the difference your product makes. Focus communication on the outcome and not the product. #6 Keep it simple Communicate as less as you can and as much as you need. People's lifes are complicated enough already. Make it absolutely effortless to understand your brand and what problem it solves. #7 Don't let a marketer do your branding Branding and marketing are different disciplines with different expertises. A mistake very often made is giving the head of marketing the steering wheel in the branding process, which often doesn't lead to the best possible outcome. #8 Have a clear goal Define, what you want to achieve as a brand first, so you don't have to discuss personal taste. A clear goal allows you to make the decisions in the branding process that will lead you to success. #9 Put your ego last In branding it is not about you. It is about what problems you can solve for people and to use your brand's maximum potential for them to understand. So get comfortable to serving a purpose and not your ego in order to achieve your goals. #10 Cut everything that doesn't serve the brand's purpose Building a strong brand means saying "no" very often.
