Breast cancer claims hundreds of lives of women in Slovakia every year. But many of them could be saved with early diagnostics. The most effective weapon we have in this regard is #mammography screening - the silent hero that can detect the disease before it becomes invincible. 🎗️ The aim of mammography screening is to catch the tumour at a stage when it is well and safely curable. In this case, the five- and ten-year survival rate is as high as 98 %. However, it declines sharply as the stage of the disease rises. 📉💔 Despite these facts, only around 30 % of Slovak women attend screening. Others turn to uncertified clinics, where the quality and accuracy of the diagnosis may not be assured, or do not go to mammography at all. 🏥❌ Last month, we have organized a press conference to highlight the need for change. What were the key findings? ✅ Close collaboration 🫱🏻🫲🏼 between oncologists and mammography screening centers is crucial for early diagnosis and successful treatment of breast cancer ✅ The availability and quality of screening mammography clinics need to be improved, which requires investment in infrastructure. ✅ It is important to standardize diagnostic procedures and involve multidisciplinary teams 👩🏻⚕️👨🏻⚕️, which can significantly increase the survival rates of patients. With joint forces, we can tackle these issues, which pose a significant societal challenge. 👥🌍 We would like to thank experts who have agreed to participate and share their insights on how to improve the status – MUDr. Bela Mrinakova, MUDr. Marek Kopáčik, MUDr. Marian Stresko, Dominika Kormanová from OZ Amazonky - Europa Donna Slovakia, Robert Babela and Veronika Rybanska, as a representative of IZA - Institute of Healthcare Analyses. #BreastCancer 📰 See the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/eCWKzzKf Author of the photos: Oles Cheresko
