Really interesting podcast that brings up one of the characters that seems to not go away in #bayarea #tech culture, i.e #ayn #rand . Conceptually if you fled authoritarian regimes, some of her ideas are good, but in practice the idea that being purely selfish is good, is what is deeply wrong with tech. The real world is complex and simple philosophies like “selfish good” are appealing to simple people or exploitive people looking to exploit.

I had a nice talk with the great musician Michael Feuerstack and we dove into a number of subjects covered on his new album, "Eternity Mongers,' including why all of us might've started saying things like, "It is what it is." That part of the conversation was prompted by his new song, "What Isn't What It Is,' which made me laugh when I read its title, but our interview got me thinking about it more deeply. "At the end of the day," this episode of Kreative Kontrol is available below and is what it is on every podcast platform.

One of the links in this week's Insights Media Insider newsletter is from the Sideways podcast from Matthew Syed (and thanks to Roisin Woolnough for the recommendation). It looks at why so many pop hits are produced in Sweden. Syed reveals that Sweden is able to produce hit after hit because of a Swedish culture of collaboration. Collaboration is is also a feature in organisations where everyone participates equally in 'flat decision-making structures'. The article/episode includes research from Professor Brian Uzzi that shows research produced by teams is cited more often than that of solo researchers. Teams are far more likely to produce a 'hit' piece of research, his findings show. #collaboration #teams #learninganddevelopment #insights
