The Llywodraeth Cymru / Welsh Government have published a really interesting review of the relationship between transport, land use planning and economic development. The review was undertaken in the context of the new CJCs for Wales, which will have powers over transport, land use planning and economic development. The report makes a powerful case for how alignment between the three areas can support a more joined-up approach to place-making. Recommendations include breaking down siloed working; aligning plan-making at national and regional levels and developing a strategic development funding strategy. The Welsh Government have now published their own, positive response to the report. In a wider context, the Global Centre Of Rail Excellence is one of the exciting, forward-looking transport developments that can support economic development and enhanced place-making, so there is a lot of really important material here for the future.
