I slept on this post, because I’ve been too busy trying to connect with people in real life … but it’s only right! Proud to share BBG Ventures investment in Ev Williams and Molly DeWolf Swenson new company Mozi, the private social network for IRL connection. Mozi is the place to help you spend time with the people you care most about staying in touch with. My relationship with these two founders mirrors the path of why we need this company: people I admire but too infrequently see - then, when we get together, there’s the magic. I've known Molly since 2016 when AOL acquired her media company RYOT, and Ev since 2018 when we met at a meditation retreat. We’ve stayed in touch on and off since then - Molly sharing female founder dealflow, me stopping by for a meditation session at Medium or Ev sharing his angel investments - but as with many people you meet at formative moments, life gets in the way and you fall off your regular catchups. One conversation with Ev always stayed with me: what is the impact of the internet in our social fabric? In an age where the social platforms have become media platforms, where we’ve gone from friends to algorithms, Mozi seeks to bring back real social connection - a private social app purpose-built to help users stay connected to old and new friends while increasing quality time IRL. I’m already using Mozi to catch up with old friends who didn’t know I’d be in their city, or let my best friend on the UWS (never go up there) know that I’ll be in Hudson Yards near his office for a meeting, and I’m deepening connections with work people I actually LIKE when I find they’ll be at that next conference.
