VMware Support and Licensing renewals are getting continually more difficult. This article provides a very comprehensive timeline of why this is happening. Talking with IT teams in Ontario this year; I've heard Broadcom quotes coming back everywhere from 30% to 5x their last VMware renewal. Park Place can support most perpetual licenses at significant cost savings, for as long as teams may need. - Due for a cluster refresh? - Already planning to switch hypervisors? - Running legacy host servers? - On a tight on budget? Following Broadcom's acquisition of VMware back in 2022, the new owners strategic changes are now really coming into effect. VMware is the clear leader of the virtualization market and the changes Broadcom have implemented since taking over are mostly around licensing and costs. The new pricing model is much simpler but encourage the partners to increase the amount of VMware cores they use. I'm sure there are lots more changes on the horizon in the coming months and years, but do you think the acquisition and changes to VMware are for the better? #VMware #Virtualization #MSP https://lnkd.in/ePXBqCxB

On November 22, 2023, Broadcom completed its $69 billion acquisition of VMware. In just one year, we’ve seen major shifts: drastic pricing changes, a new channel strategy, and restructuring of VMware’s community. What does that mean for IT strategy? Gina Rosenthal explores how the Oracle-Sun Microsystems acquisition offers key lessons for understanding the VMware transition. Oracle’s 2009 acquisition of Sun Microsystems, despite its innovations, led to a loss of the Big Admin community and significant changes to its product offerings. Now, under Broadcom’s ownership, VMware customers are facing rising costs due to a shift from perpetual licenses to subscriptions, while workforce cuts and a downsized VMworld signal a leaner future. This has opened the door for competitors, such as Microsoft, Nutanix, and Google Cloud, to capture market share as organizations reconsider their IT infrastructure options. What does the future hold for VMware and its rivals? Discover the lessons from the past and what this acquisition means for the future of IT: https://hubs.ly/Q02Zcnm40

VMware has long been a trusted name when it comes to virtualisation. However, recent changes in licensing terms and cost structures have prompted many businesses to seek alternatives to VMware that offer both reliability and cost-effectiveness. In November 2023, VMware was acquired by Broadcom. Following this acquisition, Broadcom announced a shift from perpetually licensed products to a subscription-only model. Additional concerns have been raised about Broadcom’s plans to divest the VMware End-User Computing business. Reports of substantial price hikes soon surfaced with some users experiencing rises of up to “500 or 600 percent“. These changes were met with concern from industry observers and organisations alike, citing the increases as “massive and unjustifiable“. The assessment modelled the cost of migrating off VMware for an org that runs 2,000 or more VMs and at least 100 servers to host them and found projects will take 18 to 48 months. Each virtual machine will cost between $300 and $3,000 to migrate, if you engage external service providers. https://lnkd.in/gTbPQGjt
