The global cruise industry is navigating towards a greener future with a steadfast commitment to the goal of achieving net zero emissions. This involves not only pioneering green technologies in new ship builds but also enhancing the performance of existing fleets. A recent Decarbonisation Roundtable at Seatrade Cruise Med highlighted: 🌿 The first net-zero cruise ships will be ready by 2030 (or before). 🌿 Retrofit options for existing ships are already available and will be further enhanced in the near future 🌿 Training of seafarers requires further evolution to prepare them for working with innovative propulsion technology Industry wide efforts, innovative solutions for older ships as well as new build, and continuous improvements remain the focus for our industry and its good to be part of a sector that is actively upgrading designs, operational procedures and crew expertise to embrace sustainable practices. Despite the work in progress, our industry faces hurdles, such as the speed, expense and potential scalability of solutions, as well as the need for global infrastructural support. The path to decarbonisation is complex, reflecting the varied operational landscapes and regulatory frameworks across different regions. Despite this, we are happy top report that our industry remains genuinely committed to innovative solutions and continuous improvement.
