For more than two decades, the National Digital Research Centre (NDRC) has contributed to the development of the Irish startup ecosystem by advancing early-stage digital enterprises and aiding portfolio companies in raising +€500 million, of which +€200 million was secured in the last four years alone. It is with this legacy of achievement that we announce the NDRC will cease operations in November 2025. As the NDRC enters its final operating year, we remain committed to maintaining our programmes. Operations will continue as usual until November 2025, and there are plans in place to manage and support ongoing investments. This is terrible news, not only for #NDRC but for all the future start-ups that had a route to market through supports provided by NDRC. The benefits to businesses is far greater than just the programs, it facilitates networking, introduces entrepreneurs to leaders who have been in their shoes and succeeded, showing that it is possible. This will have a significant impact on businesses throughout Ireland. The cohorts signing up every quarter demonstrates the need for these essential services. I know of many businesses that have nothing but good to say about the NDRC program and how it has helped their business in that early stage growth. So sad to hear this news for all of the NDRC team and the hubs that have supported this over the years.
This is a terrible decision. The Irish startup sector is blossoming, but it is still very young. This is not the time to pull the plug on such an impactful program.
"Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment (DETE) and Enterprise Ireland, concluded that the enterprise ecosystem has evolved significantly since NDRC’s inception" As has the NDRC no?! Mind blowing move. All the very best with future plans.
I am very saddened by these news. NDRC is where Sulu went after Enterprise Ireland's New Frontiers programme. I cannot stress how crucial it has been both for my personal journey as an entepreneur and for Sulu's journey. Reta Octania, Menno Axt and Malaika Judd have been an amazing support, both during and after the accelerator programme. They shared their deep experience with us, keep answering texts on a Sunday night, and are there for us when we need. But that is not all, we are now part of the Dogpatch Labs community, the best startup network in the Irish startup ecosystem. I do not know what can substitute NDRC for Irish startups, and nobody seems to have an answer. I fear that this will be an incredible blow to the flourishing startup ecosystem in this country, and ecosystem that was just recovering after the pandemic. Whatever happens, we are forever grateful to the NDRC team.
😲 Shocked and sad to see this news. The #NDRC has been a key support for so many startups in Ireland, particularly in it's newest form. I'm interested to see what the plans are to replace.
wow that is a shock and a real disappointment. I did NDRC's Future Health programme back in 2015 and learned more in a few weeks about startup strategy than I had in years of business. And Dogpatch has been such a big contributor to the start up scene in recent years ...looking forward to hearing how this success can be topped by a replacement to NDRC?
Really disappointed to see this. I can't, for the life of me, understand how a flagship accelerator with a strong record of success and the experience mentoring startups from over two decades has been defunded by the government. I would not be surprised if this hurts the Irish startup ecosystem and pushes even more founders to look abroad for better supports.
This makes no sense... 😤 - I can only assume there is something even greater being put in place?
Where’s the dislike button when you need it. Ridiculous lack of judgement here from the Dept. The guys in NDRC are doing an amazing job for startups and entrepreneurs in this country. It should be expanded, not ended!

1wWhere's the 😱 button? I had to hit like for this awful news. In most other countries you'd think, "Ah, that's because this newer, better, fit for purpose program is launching instead to seamlessly take over" But in Ireland, it sounds like another shambolic fudge. Just when our ecosystem was starting to rival other countries too.... New Frontiers programs, while good, do not have the bandwidth or the skills to champion all the high potential startups in our country - in some cases their rigid programs can actually hinder a rocketship startup with unnecessary restrictions, timelines & red tape. This is very sad news indeed 😢
