👏 In a recent podcast, we talked to Jared Wallace, Assistant Chief of Police at City of Waco, TX about the positive changes observed by patrol officers and detectives since participating in Faith & Blue events. Assistant Chief Wallace noted, "With our Faith & Blue event activities, we saw leadership across the city getting involved, making community engagement a more accepted practice at Waco PD. Officers began volunteering for these events on their own, not because they were assigned, but because they wanted to connect with the community." He added, "One of the most memorable moments was seeing patrol officers and detectives, who had never engaged before, sitting down at a barbecue hosted by a local church, sharing stories, and playing with the kids. It showed that breaking bread together can truly break down barriers." 🤝These insights underscore the power of community engagement in fostering positive cultural changes within the department. While these changes take time, the progress achieved is immensely rewarding. The bonds formed during these events have lasting impacts, reinforcing that connecting with faith communities enriches policing culture. 🤝 We recently talked to Pastor Gabriel Dominguez, Associate Pastor at the Methodist Church in City of Waco, TX, in a podcast, where he shared how Faith & Blue events facilitate collaboration and trust between law enforcement and communities. Pastor Dominguez explained, "The events themselves help in two different ways. They either kick off new partnerships between local churches or nonprofits and law enforcement, or they reinforce ongoing collaborations. For us, it reinforced what we were already doing in the community." 🙌 He recalled a memorable moment during a flyer distribution for a local event: "We were knocking on doors in the projects, and I knew many people there. One guy, skeptical at first, saw an officer with me and asked, 'What is he doing here?' I assured him, 'He's with me, bro. We're good.' This man, who had only interacted with police negatively, ended up joining us." This story illustrates how events can break the ice and foster meaningful connections between law enforcement and community members, even in challenging areas. We’re thrilled to announce a new partnership with the City of Chicago aligning with our mission to elevate community perspectives and foster a more equitable and just society. In this transformative project, The Intersect will facilitate a citywide community input process to gather feedback from residents across Chicagoland. The goal? To center community input on alternative policing models and public safety reforms that reflect the needs and hopes of residents. Together with community-based organizations, we’ll ensure residents have a say in shaping three key initiatives: ➡️ Expanding 911 Alternate Response Models to provide care-centered approaches beyond law enforcement. ➡️ Strengthening Community Policing so that every officer builds trust and relationships at the neighborhood level. This work reflects the heart of our values—listening to the people most impacted by policy and amplifying their voices to drive meaningful change. We are honored to be part of a movement toward safety, equity, and transparency in every corner of Chicago. Change begins with listening—and we can’t wait to hear what Chicago has to say. What are your thoughts on this? #nonprofit #changeisgood #publicsector #workforce #socialsafetynet #public safety #communitypolicing #alternateresponse #community #communityvoice

🙌 In a recent podcast, Jared Wallace, Assistant Chief of Police at the City of Waco, TX Police Department, reflected on how community engagement has contributed to fostering a positive culture within the police department post-Faith & Blue Week. "Through our Faith & Blue events, we've connected with many community members who are passionate about creating a safe and healthy environment," Jared shared. "These interactions have allowed us to share stories, break down misconceptions, and build stronger bonds. As a result, we're now more engaged with community initiatives like violence prevention, community cleanups, and back-to-school events—activities we weren't involved in before." 💪 This insight underscores the power of community engagement. While Faith & Blue may start as a week of activities, the relationships and trust built during that time have had lasting impacts. These efforts have not only enhanced the department's resources and partnerships but also helped shift perceptions about law enforcement's role and mission.
