🚀 Just completed a fun project using PyTorch to build a simple neural network for regression! 🔥 I developed a model to fit a noisy quadratic function, demonstrating how to train a neural network from scratch using three hidden layers and live visualization with Matplotlib. 📈✨ The project showcases: 🎯 Training a neural network with ReLU activations and MSE loss. 🧠 Real-time plotting of the training process to visualize how the model learns over time. 🔧 Experimenting with different hyperparameters like learning rate, weight decay, and architecture configuration. It was an exciting way to reinforce my understanding of deep learning concepts while getting hands-on experience with PyTorch and dynamic visualization! 🚀 Weekend Project: Object Detection with YOLOv8 🐾 This weekend, I explored the world of object detection and deep learning, driven by curiosity about the YOLO model. As many have heard, machine learning often starts with the classic example of teaching a machine to distinguish between dogs and cats by feeding it a lot of labeled images. I decided to try something similar to learn more about object detection and how to train a model effectively. 💡 Here's what I did: Used YOLOv8 for object detection. Leveraged Roboflow to manage my datasets and annotations. Collected images from Open Images for training. Coded everything in Python. Connected it all to my webcam for live detection using OpenCV and used my phone as a webcam. As this was my first time training a model, I used about 400 images, which helped me understand that the more images you use, the more accurate your model becomes. Although the model is functional, being a first version, it still has some detection issues.. Special thanks to my dog Vicky 🐕, who volunteered for testing (and I used some of his pics for training)! Hello. I recently joined this Kaggle competition with Raahim Siddiqi about automated academic essay scoring. Its been a blast trying to solve it. My main take away from it was the importance of feature engineering, and the use of deep learning models for enhanced textual understanding. I computed paragraph, sentences, and word level statistics such as lengths, readability indexes etc. using the 'textstat' python library. We also used DeBERTa embeddings to increase our score. One thing for sure, Kaggle is super competitive, but the community is super helpful, and there's a lot to learn from there.
