Fraud and corruption damages are far beyond the financial losses. The "Dieselgate" scandal, which erupted in September 2015, significantly affected the reputation of "Made in Germany." Unfortunately, it seems that the relevant regulatory German agencies do not respond in an effective and deterrent manner. I hope the German government and legislatures comply with, at the minimum, the United Nations Convention Against Corruption. #dieselgate #germany #mercedes #corruption #emissionscandal

Auto industry experts warn Biden's EV mandate may limit gas car options in the future Charles Creitz Mon, May 20, 2024 at 1:00 PM GMT+5 https://lnkd.in/dXDduFS6? Auto industry experts warn Biden's EV mandate may limit gas car options in the future When President Biden said that Americans can "buy any kind of car they want," he failed to factor in new emissions standards his administration is putting in place that will reduce consumer choice, industry experts say. During a speech delivered on Tuesday outside the Rose Garden, Biden focused on protecting U.S. jobs from unfair foreign trade practices and promised to not allow China to control the market for internal combustion engines or electric vehicles (EVs). "I want to make this clear, notwithstanding what the other guy is saying – can buy any kind of car they want… but we're never going to allow China to unfairly control the market for these cars, period," he said, as "the other guy" appeared to be a reference to former President Trump, who made waves for predicting an auto industry "bloodbath" if Democrats continue their EV push. Geoff Moody is senior vice president of American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM), a trade association representing companies like Chevron, ExxonMobil, Koch and others. He said that Biden's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulation "is functionally a ban on sales of most new gas cars by 2032." BIDEN CRACKS DOWN ON DIESEL TRUCKS IN BID TO FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE, REDUCE EMISSIONS "The policy is going to both limit the availability of new gas cars and push the cost of remaining gasoline-powered vehicles out of reach for most Americans," he said, adding that EPA compliance scenarios he has viewed project new internal-combustion-engine car sales to fall drastically from 84% at present to below 30% in 2032. READ ON THE FOX NEWS APP "The whole point of the rule is to push American drivers toward electric vehicles by limiting their other options," Moody said. American Petroleum Institute executive Will Hupman echoed some of that sentiment, predicting that it could effectively eliminate most new gas-powered vehicles in the future. In April, Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan. launched an effort to stymie the new restrictions via the Congressional Review Act, which allows Congress to make an expedited attempt to invalidate new agency rules. Kansas Sen. Roger Marshall is spearheading an effort to stop President Biden's new emissions rules. Marshall told Fox News Digital on Thursday the president's comment sounded like a "political-showboating" response to such objections. "Now that he’s facing backlash, Biden is trying to walk back his irresponsible

The Biden administration finalized a new regulation that will effectively eliminate most new gas-powered cars and traditional hybrids from the U.S. market in eight years. Consumers have made clear they value the freedom to choose a vehicle that’s best for them – not intrusive government mandates that risk higher costs and a greater reliance on foreign supply chains. 🔴 Breaking Dieselgate News: Hyundai fined for defeat devices 👨⚖️ A recent article published by Follow the Money states that German prosecutors have fined branches of the Hyundai Motor Group nearly 60 million euros for excessive emissions from 90,000 diesel vehicles equipped with devices designed to manipulate emissions tests. The fine, totaling 58.5 million euros, was announced after Follow the Money inquired about the status of the investigation, which began with raids on Hyundai facilities in Germany and Luxembourg in 2022. Despite the conclusion of the investigation, other EU countries, including the Netherlands and Sweden, have not been notified of the fine and have therefore not taken any steps to recall the affected vehicles. Follow the Money 🚗 The use of "defeat devices" allowed the affected vehicles to appear compliant with emissions regulations during mandatory tests, while they emitted nitrogen oxides well above the European standard in real-world conditions. Although German prosecutors confirmed the presence of these devices, they concluded that fraud could not be established, attributing the violations to negligence instead. Consequently, Hyundai has paid the fine, but the company has not disclosed it in its financial reports, raising questions about the transparency of the situation. ⛽ The lack of communication from German authorities has created confusion regarding the status of the implicated vehicles. The Dutch and Swedish authorities have stated they were unaware of the fines, which hampers their ability to take necessary actions. German regulators have indicated that it is the responsibility of the KBA (German Federal Motor Transport Authority) to inform the other countries, but the KBA has been slow to act, stating that its own administrative procedures are still ongoing. This delay reflects a broader issue of regulatory inefficiency in handling emissions fraud, which has persisted since the Volkswagen 'Dieselgate' scandal in 2015. 📰 Read more on our newsletter: https://lnkd.in/dzn35WUu

Current regulations, including regulations from the California Air Resources Board (CARB), are significantly impacting truck buying and operations. The Advanced Clean Truck and Advanced Clean Fleet regulations are driving the shift towards zero-emission vehicles by setting strict sales and fleet requirements. When it comes to understanding trucking industry regulations: “It’s all about figuring out CARB’s regulations,” said Mari Mantle, regulatory affairs manager at Cummins. According to Mantle and Tom Swenson, global regulatory affairs director at Cummins, the challenges posed by these regulations include market disruptions and limitations on internal combustion engine sales. As California leads these changes, other states are expected to adopt similar regulations by 2027, affecting fleets nationwide. Brussels is sticking to its controversial plans for curbs on combustion engines in the EU from 2035, according to internal documents, despite heavy pressure from the car industry to water down the incoming rules. Answers prepared for the bloc’s climate chief Wopke Hoekstra for when he faces parliamentary hearings next month and seen by the Financial Times say the EU “cannot and should not roll back” its plan to outlaw the sale of new cars powered by fossil fuels. The law, announced in 2021, has come under fire from Europe’s carmakers as they struggle with flagging electric vehicle sales and intense competition from Chinese manufacturers. Except for Renault, all the major European car manufacturers have issued profit warnings this year. Volkswagen, Germany’s biggest private-sector employer, is considering shutting plants in Germany for the first time in its 87-year history, it said last month. Industry body Acea has also warned that the sector could face millions of euros in fines when stricter rules come into force next year aimed at cutting overall emissions from cars in Europe by 15 per cent compared to a 2021 baseline. https://lnkd.in/dbD722bm'
