👏 ENSIE congratulates Ursula von der Leyen for her re-election as President of the European Commission. 📣 During her keynote statement for a second mandate, delivered this morning during the first plenary session of the newly elected European Parliament, von der Leyen gave an overview of the elements of the political guidelines for the next European Commission 2024-2029. 📑 President von der Leyen called for a new action plan for the European Pillar of Social Rights; promised to support every region through a strong cohesion policy; provided a strong focus on competitiveness and reducing the burden for SMEs; alerted about the strong need for increased private and public investments to support the transitions; and reiterated her favourable advice towards EU enlargement ⚙ To deepen the single market and strengthen cohesion, the role played by Work Integration Social Entreprises (WISEs) role will be crucial. Investing in WISEs means investing in great contributors to lifelong learning, Just Transition, cohesion in the most deprived regions and beyond the EU, quality jobs, inclusiveness and democracy at work. 🔍 Within a new action plan for the European Pillar of Social Rights, a strong focus should be put on correcting the uneven playing field for the social economy, including WISEs. The social Economy was only mentioned between the lines, and ENSIE hopes the Commission's commitment to implement the Council recommendation and the SEAP will remain high. 🎯 This will be about giving good means to achieve the EU objectives. 🤝 ENSIE will be fully engaged in supporting the European Commission in doing so.

Congratulations to Ursula von der Leyen on securing a second term as President of the European Commission. Ecocem welcomes the proposed #CleanIndustrialDeal and the focus on low-carbon technologies. We look forward to seeing progress on these three key initiatives which are essential to accelerating carbon reduction: ➡ Support for energy-intensive industries: We hope the Clean Industrial Deal will bring robust support and funding for the #decarbonisation of the cement and heavy industries, which is essential to achieving #EU climate goals. ➡ Competitiveness fund: Establishing a Competitiveness Fund will be a significant development. We advocate for it to be used to accelerate the adoption of clean technologies within the cement sector. ➡ Public Procurement Directive Revision: By prioritising European products in strategic sectors, we see an opportunity for the cement and concrete industry to lead in improving #sustainability. Together, we can build a greener, more resilient Europe. #EU2040 #EUGreenDeal #Fitfor55 #NZIA #CBAM #AdvancingNetZero

Will President Ursula von der Leyen’s New term be a Visionary period for Inclusive Trade and Development Policies between Europe and Africa ? As an aspiring trade policy expert with strategic forsights for trade justice and sustainable development. Hope the new Presidency of the European Commission and its African counterparts can take a step further to address the needs and interests of African youths and civil societies into trade and development policy designing. However, it’s essential to ensure that the voices of African youths and civil society stakeholders are central in shaping future trade and development policies. I strongly believe the next five years are pivotal for digital and green transitions, which are critical key priorities areas of the 5th Industrial Revolution. Key Issues that draws my attention for reflection: 1️⃣ Youth and Civil Society Engagement: How will Ursula von der Leyen’s administration and their African partners create inclusive platforms for African youths and civil society to participate in policy dialogues? 2️⃣ Policy Challenges: What specific trade and development challenges do diverse African stakeholders face, and how can the current policy measures and mechanisms put in place by stakeholders be made effective? 3️⃣ Sustainable Partnerships: How can the EU and Africa stakeholders collaborate effectively to promote sustainable trade and development? In the past 2 years I have been monitoring the evolution and dynamics in trade and development between Africa and Europe. Bearing in mind questions to contribute to restructuring and growth between Africa and Europe’s economic relationship: What steps should the EU and African institutions take to ensure the inclusion of youth and civil society in trade and development policy-making processes? What are the main trade and development challenges faced by African youth and civil society? - And are there affective plans to be implemented? How can we foster stronger partnerships between the EU and African stakeholders to drive sustainable development? 🧐 Share your thoughts and ideas below! Let’s work together to ensure that African voices are integral to this critical conversation. 📢 Join the discussion! Share this post to spread awareness and gather diverse perspectives on this important issue. Thank you! 🙏 #TradeJustice #SustainableDevelopment #EUTrade #AfricaEUTrade #PolicyAdvocacy #InclusivePolicy #DigitalTransition #GreenTransition #EconomicResilience #PublicPrivatePartnerships #UrsulaVonDerLeyen

Yesterday, European Commission President Ms. Ursula von der Leyen, in her political guidelines, emphasized a Clean Industrial Deal to #decarbonize and reduce energy prices, put research and innovation at the heart of economy, boost productivity through digital technology diffusion, invest massively in #sustainable competitiveness, and tackle the skills and labour gap. UNIDO and the EU are perfectly aligned in their efforts to achieve climate neutrality and sustainability. The UNIDO-EU partnership has spearheaded initiatives that foster green technologies, promote sustainable industrial practices, and ensure that economic growth is both inclusive and sustainable. This partnership will not only advance global sustainability targets but also enhance the competitiveness and resilience of industries worldwide. #UNIDOEUpartnership #SDG9 #ProgressbyInnovation

I join the community in congratulating Ursula von der Leyen for her appointment and the release of the political guidelines for the EC mandate 2024-2029. At C40 Cities we were glad to see a mention of the willingness to strengthen the dialogue with #local councillors on #citizen engagement and the decision to keep high the ambitions set in the previous mandate. We are particularly happy to see among the strategic priorities: - the willingness for Europe to remain a leader in international #climatenegotiations and work further on #green diplomacy - a 90% emission-reduction target for #2040 - a revision of the Public Procurement Directive - a renewed focus on #skills and #qualityjobs - an action Plan on the Implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights, including a poverty strategy and an affordable housing plan - the ambition for a European #ClimateAdaptationPlan and a new European Water Resilience Strategy - a modern and reinforced #EUbudget A personal hope that the expected "Vision for Agriculture and Food" will be built from the work and ambitions set in the Sustainable Food System Framework Law, where we had highlighted the need for a #coherent set of #policies for the #agrifoodsector and not only a revision of the agricultural policy. There is no sustainable food production, without food consumption!

Breaking: Ursula von der Leyen elected as new EU Commission chief. What is necessary in the next EU? We commented on her speech and strategic plan below: 1️⃣ On #Gaza, we need the EU to take urgent action, including calling for an immediate and permanent #ceasefire, for Israel to allow a full and unfettered humanitarian response, and for Israel to foot the reconstruction bill for water and sanitation infrastructure. We need a #ceasefireNOW! Our report, Water War Crimes, published today, shows how water is used as a weapon of war. Read here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eEmVPUPw 2️⃣ On migration, the EU must ensure a safe and humane way for asylum and migration. We need rules that put people first and do not use them as political bargaining chips. Want to know more? Read our statement with over 90 NGOs demanding the EU ditch plans to offload their migration responsibilities to countries outside of Europe 👉 https://t.co/r1N02TFl8C 3️⃣ The EU's duty to prioritise poverty eradication in its development policy is sorely missing. The Global Gateway threatens to privatise EU aid and begs the question of who will really profit? EU companies and countries, or those in need? 4️⃣ On #climate, we need to urgently stop the climate crisis, while also changing agri policies and commercial practices to end food insecurity and guarantee a living income for farmers worldwide, including EU farmers. Climate. Inequality. Hunger. It’s all the same fight. 5️⃣ On inequality, the super-rich become richer and the poor poorer. Yet, EU governments fail to tax Europe’s wealthiest fairly and miss out on 33m EUR an hour in unpaid taxes from Europe’s multimillionaires. It's simple. It's time to #TaxtheRichEU. 👉 As we look at the EU's new priorities, we must remember Europe’s future cannot be built on policies underpinned by short-termism, insularism, or denial. It is clear that Ursula von der Leyen and our EU leaders must face challenges head-on and create a future that puts people and the planet first.
