We’ve seen gyms totally crumble in January. New Year's rush is WILD. There’s a massive surge of people chasing their New Year’s goals, and if you’re not ready, it can go south real fast. Overwhelmed staff, clunky sign-ups, frustrated new members who never come back. It’s a mess. But with a little planning, you can crush it instead of getting crushed. Here’s what we’ve learned works (and what we wish more gyms did): 1️⃣ Fix your website. If your site is slow or confusing, people will bounce before even stepping in. Make it fast, clean, and make signing up stupidly easy—especially on mobile. 2️⃣ Start marketing NOW. Don’t wait until January. Build hype in December with ads, social posts, and maybe even some member success stories. People are already thinking about their resolutions, so get in front of them early. 3️⃣ Make sign-ups painless. Keep your forms simple (just name, email, phone) and let people sign up from their phones in minutes. Also, have solid payment options—recurring billing is a lifesaver. 4️⃣ Automate follow-ups. Leads get cold FAST. A quick, personalized follow-up text or email can make all the difference. Automation is your friend here. 5️⃣ Prep your team and space. Add extra staff during peak times, and train everyone to handle the rush with a smile. Oh, and don’t forget to check your equipment and restock essentials—you don’t want dumbbells breaking on Day 2. Over the years, I've learned to take a workout break over January. For simple reasons of how time effective it is to exercise when the gyms are packed beyond capacity. 📈 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆: 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗚𝘆𝗺 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝘆 3𝟱% 𝗶𝗻 𝟯 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗧𝗲𝗽y 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲: A medium-sized gym in Italy was facing a retention issue. Many members were canceling their memberships due to injuries, lack of proper recovery support, and generic workout programs that didn’t cater to individual needs. This led to a high churn rate and reduced member satisfaction. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: In September, the gym integrated Tepy into its services to address these challenges.
