Driving Decarbonisation in Construction: CLC's Five Client Carbon Commitments On Tuesday, 4th March, the Construction Leadership Council (CLC) hosted its second Five Client Carbon Commitment event—bringing together major infrastructure clients, government, and supply chain stakeholders with the aim to accelerate the construction industry's decarbonisation journey. 📣 A Collective Commitment to Change Thank you to Vincent Clancy, CEO and Chairman of Turner & Townsend, for hosting the event at our London office. The strong turnout reaffirmed the industry's dedication to achieving Net Zero. 🎤We were honoured to welcome Sarah Jones MP, Minister of State for Construction & CLC Co-Chair, who delivered an insightful keynote. She highlighted the UK Government's commitment to carbon reduction in infrastructure projects and the importance of cross-industry collaboration. 💡 Expanding the Five Client Carbon Commitments A major announcement was client expansion! Scottish Water, Transport for London and the Environment Agency are the most recent organisations joining the six other infrastructure clients—Anglian Water, Heathrow, Lower Thames Crossing, National Highways, Northumbrian Water, and Sellafield Ltd—in officially signing up to the Five Client Carbon Commitments. 🌱 This collective commitment now represents over £30 billion worth of UK construction projects, further strengthening our push towards decarbonisation in the industry. 🔎 Market Response & Supply Chain Innovation We also gained valuable insights from Matt Palmer, CLC Biodiversity & Net Zero Sponsor and Executive Director of the Lower Thames Crossing, who emphasised the urgency of reducing carbon emissions and the role of leadership in driving industry-wide change. A key highlight was the expert panel discussion, chaired by Katharina Ferguson (Supply Chain Director, Lower Thames Crossing), exploring how the supply chain is responding to the Five Client Carbon Commitments. 💬 Panelists included: ✅ Isabel Coman CEng FICE (TfL, Director of Engineering & Asset Strategy) ✅ Carles Rovira (Celsa Steel UK, CEO) ✅ Bevan Browne (Tarmac, Managing Director UK Materials) ✅ Darren Fitch (Volvo, Head of Markets/Strategic Accounts) This discussion was crucial as it showcased how supply chain leaders are aligning with low-carbon solutions, focusing on: 🌱 Phasing out fossil fuels 🧱 Low-carbon concrete 🔗 Low-carbon steel 🚀 Scaling Up Low-Carbon Solutions As we move forward, it's clear that collaboration between clients and the supply chain is key to scaling up sustainable solutions. With more organisations stepping up and sending strong market signals, our supply chains can respond with innovation—proving that momentum is building for real, industry-wide change. 🙌 A huge thank you to everyone involved—speakers, panelists, and attendees—for making this event such a success! Looking forward to seeing how the industry continues this journey towards decarbonisation! 🌍
