***Potentially Unpopular Opinion Warning*** Too many healthcare founders & startups believe their solution, device, or software is going to revolutionize health and well being... Here's my unpopular opinion: Digital health will not be as effective as everyone has been saying it will be... And the reason lies in our collective (mis)understanding around effectively implementing these technologies. The reality is that, most digital health companies have failed to deliver on the promises they've made over the years... Millions have been invested with relatively little true value creation in the form of clinical outcomes and population health... Why? I think it has to do with the disconnect between the perceived benefits and value of these solutions and the actual behavioral change required to implement them... Whether it be on the provider side or the patient side, implementing these technologies or innovations requires real behavior change: 1) Providers need to change their workflows and processes to integrate the new solution 2) Patients need to initiate new behaviors to adhere to the use of these solutions or technologies (and we've seen how effective the healthcare system is at facilitating changes in health or lifestyle behaviors) So, I'll say it again: digital health tools and solutions will fail to deliver real clinical improvements... ...until they're implemented within the context of effective behavioral change for all involved stakeholders. But, of course, I could be way off... What do you think? Is the digital health environment headed for stagnation, or are we at the cusp of figuring out the value creation/clinical outcomes we've been hoping for? PS. If you or someone you know is figuring (or has figured) this problem out, I'd love to interview them for the podcast! #healthcaretech #healthcareinnovation #healthcaretechnology #healthcareinnovation #behavioralchange
