My post last month on CMS's new TEAM bundles got a lot of attention. It’s clear many people are wondering how TEAM will change healthcare, especially since it’s mandatory and focuses on surgeries. Let's dive deeper. 🟢 How are hospitals getting ready for TEAM? In markets where TEAM will be mandatory, I'm hearing three big things from hospital leaders: 1. Better Surgical Care: New plans to optimize surgery processes, to make patient care smoother and outcomes better.    2. Health Equity Programs: As TEAM focuses on helping underserved populations, senior leaders are looking at how they can adjust their current programs or create new ones to meet this goal.    3. Environmental Impact: TEAM’s focus on climate change is prompting hospitals to think about how they affect the environment, from saving energy to cutting down on waste. 🟠 There are also some concerns about TEAM: 1. Helping Rural and Safety Net Hospitals: These hospitals might struggle financially under TEAM because they can't make the investments needed for success. Should they be allowed to participate in a smaller way without risking too much money? 2. More Time to Prepare, and More Time Before Risk: Some industry leaders are advocating for a delayed start date, and for hospitals to get at least two years in the program before they face any financial risk, giving them time to adjust. 3. Pricing Issues: The 3% discount to benchmark and 30-day timeframe may not give hospitals enough opportunity to save money. Should the discount be made more favorable to encourage more impactful care redesign? 4. Include Surgery Centers: The current plan for TEAM leaves out Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs). This could be a missed opportunity since many of the surgeries covered by TEAM can be done at these centers. What challenges or preparations are you seeing with TEAM?
