What is “Executive Presence”? There are three key components, which are in our control: 1. How you think – are your thoughts and mindset consistent with someone in an executive role rather than a “worker bee”? 2. How you act – if someone were shadowing you for a day, would they see the signs of someone with gravitas? 3. How you sound – are you speaking in meetings on strategic topics in a way that sounds confident and leader-like? While you can’t snap your fingers and magically have people see you’re a leader with executive presence, you can help them along by focusing on the areas that are in your control. Which area do you most need to focus on to be seen as ready for the next level? Leave a comment and let me know. When the dream job turns into a nightmare. Sometimes, what looks shiny from the outside can be a mess on the inside. Changing priorities, lack of processes, poor leadership... That’s what a couple of my clients faced recently. It’s a tough spot to be in, but there are steps you can take. → Identify the main issues. Focus on what you can control. → Talk to your manager. Express your concerns and seek clarity and support. → Seek allies. Find colleagues who share your views. Build a support network and lean on each other. → Develop a plan. Create a strategy to address the problems. Set short-term goals and focus on small wins. → Keep learning. Use this time to grow your skills. Take advantage of training. → Know when to move on. Sometimes, the best decision is to leave. Recognize when it’s time and plan your exit. → Reflect and learn. Think about what went wrong. Identify red flags and use the experience to inform future decisions. Remember, every job has its challenges. The key is knowing when you can drive change–and when it’s time to step away. How would you handle this situation?

Ask yourself this question❓. How many opportunities do we miss by not reviewing my strategy on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. 📅 "I don't have time to meet". 😩 This is often the most common excuse people use. As a manager, 👀your responsibility. Do we have a clear strategy? Do we have it published in such a way that everyone has access to it and has it incorporated into their day-to-day job? Or even simpler, do we have a strategy?

Your manager’s belief in you can either shape your career into a success—or lead it to failure. I’ll never forget when I first learned about the Pygmalion Effect. It states that your performance is profoundly impacted by how much those around you believe in you, as proven in a 1968 study by Rosenthal and Jacobson. The impact of this can be life-changing: ⬇️ If your manager doubts your potential, you’re likely to perform worse, creating a downward spiral in your performance. ⬆️ On the flip side, if your manager believes in your potential, you’re more likely to excel, creating an upward spiral. This compounds over time. 💚 With a strong manager, you will grow exponentially. ❌ With a poor manager, your confidence will diminish exponentially. I have seen many good employees implode under managers who doubted their potential. If you feel this is you, my only advice is this: Find someone who believes in you before too much damage is done. Have you experienced this in your career? Share your thoughts below.
