Had a great conversation with Jacquelyn Miller and Christina Farr on the ins and outs of the direct communication method for startups. They had lots of great advice, which you can check out at the blog. My big takeaway, personally, is that there's truly no substitute for authentic expertise: Founders eat, breathe, and sleep their startup's market, giving them the kind of nuanced, insightful perspective that nobody else can provide. You don't need to be a professional writer or a seasoned on-camera personality to shine; you just have to give your real thoughts on the topic.
Vertex's Matt Weinberger sat down with Christina Farr and Jacquelyn Miller for their thoughts on how startups and their founders can benefit from "going direct" with their messaging -- talking directly to the most important people in their universe, without a middleman. Here are some key takeaways from their conversation: 1) Start close to home: Founders can refine their messaging with their board, their executive leadership team, investors, or any other group of stakeholders before taking it on the proverbial road in the form of blogs, podcasts, or videos. This also helps make sure you're aligned internally on the message. 2) Measure what matters and build a discipline: Pageviews and follower counts (probably) don't help your business in a meaningful way. It's better to figure out which audiences specifically you want to reach, and then build a discipline out of writing blogs or recording podcasts or whatever it is you want to do. A regular cadence is the bedrock of a direct communications strategy. 3) Be authentic: Nobody thinks about a problem space more deeply than a startup founder. That's why it's so important that business leaders themselves take on the responsibility of communicating directly with an audience: Even if you don't think you're a great writer, things about your market that you take for granted are probably fascinating to a broader audience. Delegating out communications duties can undermine that advantage. #startups #startupadvice #communications #marketing #publicrelations For much more, read the blog: https://lnkd.in/gGB9KU5B
