Supersonic flight is on its way back. US aviation company Boom Supersonic is working to make this vision a reality. With Overture, the world's only #supersonic airplane currently under development, you will travel in a #sustainable passenger #aircraft that flies twice as fast as today's passenger jets. To develop such an ambitious aircraft, the company needed a business platform that would facilitate not only development and design, but also internal and external collaboration. Boom Supersonic has opted for the #3DEXPERIENCE platform. Thanks to the live database and central data storage, all participants or engineers can access the model at any time and from any location. The ability to model simultaneously with suppliers allows the team to evaluate design decisions from different angles and find the best way forward for the design. Of course, the data and company information is protected by controlled role access that Boom can create. Discover more about this exciting project:

I got a glimpse of the future of regional travel - and it's quite exciting, as it will be sustainable, AI-powered and customer-centric. I kid you not! Traditional regional aviation has been characterised by smaller, less efficient aircraft operating at high costs and serving thin routes. However, today's companies are leveraging cutting-edge technologies and innovative business models to create a more sustainable and passenger-friendly future for short-haul air travel. I learned this first hand at the Revolution.Aero summit in London. The technologies and business models showcased (in the article) have the power to transform regional aviation, making it more sustainable, efficient, and customer-centric. By offering tailored, on-demand services and leveraging the benefits of electric propulsion, these visionary companies are opening up new markets and reshaping the way we think about short-haul travel. https://lnkd.in/eaYhaE3H h/t Dirk Singer for the article #sustainability #travel #technology

The article discusses the ambitious goals of Boom Supersonic, a startup aiming to revive supersonic passenger travel, a feat that the Concorde once attempted but ultimately could not sustain economically or environmentally. Boom's current focus is on its XB-1 testbed airplane, a sleek aircraft resembling a fighter jet, which could soon become the first privately funded plane to break the sound barrier. However, the true challenge for Boom lies beyond this milestone—it must successfully develop and bring to market its Overture airliner, a four-engine, delta-winged jet designed to fly at Mach 1.7, capable of halving transatlantic flight times. The real test for Boom will be navigating the complex and stringent regulatory landscape required to certify the Overture for commercial use. Achieving safety certification from authorities on both sides of the Atlantic is a daunting task that will require significant time and resources, with the company aiming to begin revenue service by 2030. The success of this project will hinge not just on technological advancements, but also on overcoming the environmental and economic challenges that plagued previous attempts at supersonic travel. Boom's CEO, Blake Scholl, remains optimistic, drawing confidence from the fact that supersonic flight has been achieved before, even if under different circumstances. During a visit to Boom’s facility at the Mojave Air & Space Port, Scholl emphasized the potential for success, despite the considerable hurdles ahead. As Boom charts its flight plan towards a new era of faster-than-sound commercial travel, the company’s journey will be measured in years, with the hopes of achieving what Concorde could not—sustainable, efficient, and safe supersonic passenger flights.

Lilium has revealed figures from a landmark international survey shows a pent up demand for clean aviation, with 65 per cent of consumers across the USA, the UK, France and Germany calling for change. In a unique poll of 4,000 people, two-thirds (65%) of consumers said it is time for air travel to become sustainable. Lilium believes the results also reflect wide excitement about the prospect of new forms of transport. Polled on a series of innovative travel methods, 60 per cent said they would try electric aviation, while 61 per cent specifically said they would like to try eVTOL aircraft, with the demand strongest in Germany (64 per cent). The figures were released shortly after the aviation world gathered at Farnborough Airshow, where Lilium unveiled the full scale model of its Lilium Jet for the first time in the UK. Sebastien B., Chief Commercial Officer at Lilium, said: “In four critical markets, this survey shows that one thing is clear: people are ready for a new form of transport — one that’s more comfortable, convenient to access and meets their concerns on the environment. These numbers underline why Lilium with more than 100 binding orders leads the eVTOL market.” He added: “While customers are demanding more sustainable ways of travel – with cost, comfort and convenience being important for them, regional air mobility is the key market providing higher time saving and better cost per mile. Moreover, we learned from our findings that for those well versed with eVTOL’s potential, the excitement around electric aviation is even stronger. I believe that once our aircraft is in operations commercially, these numbers we have seen in this survey will increase.” Read the full text on our blog. #AvfoilNews #Lilium #eVTOL #ElectricAviation #SustainableTravel #AirMobility #CleanEnergy #AviationNews #FutureOfFlight #AirTaxi #ClimateAction #GreenTransport #Aerospace #TravelTrends #Innovation #EnvironmentalImpact #AdvancedAirMobility #FarnboroughAirshow #ElectricFlight #Sustainability #TravelResearch #AviationSurvey
