The Climate Smart Buildings Alliance (CSBA), a joint project between EllisDon, RBC and Mattamy Homes, is launching the Responsible Buildings Pact, a cross-industry agreement aimed at increasing the use of low carbon materials in the built environment. This initiative was unveiled yesterday at the CAGBC | Canada Green Building Council's Building Lasting Change conference, with more than 20 companies committing to the Pact. The Responsible Buildings Pact is an open, voluntary, industry-wide agreement for developers, consultants, contractors, and supporters interested in working together to reduce the embodied carbon of the buildings we create. Companies joining the Pact will commit to remaining educated on lower carbon materials, establishing a process to consistently evaluate whether lower carbon materials or design strategies can be used, and publicly reporting the results of their process and evaluations on an annual basis. Good to see this gaining traction. The benefits are clear, and Scotland’s heading in the right direction. I shared my thoughts on the consultation earlier this year – you can read them here: https://bit.ly/Luths_blog. Let’s make lower bills, better comfort, and healthier homes the standard.
The Scottish Government has announced amendments to building regulations, setting the stage for a Scottish Passive House Equivalent! This milestone marks an important step toward energy-efficient, sustainable housing. Passivhaus Trust Research & Policy Director Sarah Lewis sums it up: "An important first step, but we’re eager for precise energy targets and tools to align with Passive House standards." In case you missed it: In January 2023 the Scottish Government announced plans to introduce new minimum environmental design standards for all newbuild housing to meet a ‘Scottish equivalent to the Passive House standard'. Together, we’re building a greener future! 🌱 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e3SQBxhH #Sustainability #NetZero #Scotland Credit: Passivhaus Trust

Another informative article from the Big Green Build series showcases powerful examples of what's achievable when sustainability and long-term vision intersect. Thrilled to see a new generation of developers and architects transforming our built environment and leading the way with net-zero and green retrofit designs. They're proving that a cleaner, more profitable blueprint is not just possible but essential. UnitiWall is proud to be part of this movement with our innovative solutions for both new buildings and retrofitting. Canada’s private sector has a critical role in driving this transformation by promoting, adopting, and investing in green buildings. More than just meeting targets, it’s crucial to rethink how we construct, invest, and sustain our communities for generations to come. Let’s keep pushing boundaries, challenging the status quo, and embracing the opportunity to create better and more sustainable environments through innovation and collaboration. https://lnkd.in/dJ5xtCGt #Sustainability #GreenBuilding #NetZero #ConstructionInnovation #BigGreenBuild

CAGBC | Canada Green Building Council, The PLACE Centre - Smart Prosperity Institute and REALPAC released a report detailing critical obstacles to #decarbonization from the point of view of owners and investors. 10 practical solutions are recommended that can be realized through industry collaboration and with targeted government support. Here are 4 important one: 📊 Access to data (energy consumption, etc.) - critical to understand what is necessary to reduce operating costs for owners and utility bills for tenants 📈 Recognize decarbonization investments in property valuations that will strengthen the business case 🏗️ Scale up use and knowledge-sharing around technologies supporting decarbonization that will provide benefits to Canadian manufacturing and the economy as a whole 👷♀️ Increase decarbonization leadership, knowledge, and skills across the sector. CAGBC and its partners trained more than 4,500 professionals with the low-carbon training program, and this type of initiative needs to be expanded.
