The way we work in public health is, we make the best recommendations and decisions based on the best available data. - Dr. Tom Frieden One thing is for sure. The future of healthcare revolves around one element. Data. The healthcare industry is rapidly changing. How can we use the power of cross-border data to transform healthcare? Join us at Healthcare World @ HLTH Europe in Amsterdam. This must hear event, powered by Healthcare World, brings together global experts like NHS England, WHO, and the Dubai Health Authority to address today's most pressing healthcare concerns. We'll be hosting a series of critical conversations addressing today's most important healthcare concerns. 💡 Session 1: The effect of cross border laws and regulations on Data Driven Healthcare To achieve precision medicine and population health treatments, we require an enormous amount of data. However, in order to be genuinely actionable, our data must cross international borders. This workshop will look at the policies and legislation required to allow for this worldwide data flow. 💡 Session 2: Keeping the relationship between founders and VC funders in good health The relationship between founders and investors has evolved. VCs nowadays provide more than just capital. They offer strategic advice and excellent connections. How can founders and investors maintain a positive connection that promotes growth? 💡 Session 3: Future-proof primary care: how digital tools can drive value and efficiency Primary care is the front line of healthcare, essential for capturing population-level data analysis. Why is it so often overlooked? Discover how digital tools may improve basic care by increasing value and efficiency. 💡 Did you realize? Several healthcare leaders agree that data sharing is essential for innovation. How can we strike a compromise between privacy and the need for huge, shareable data to enhance global health outcomes? Some claim that strict data rules stifle innovation rather than protecting privacy. We envision a future where data flows freely, transforming patient care worldwide. We must accept that our current systems need help. What if the future of health technology is based on a universal data language? I recently engaged with the webinar series on Decoding Data and Digital Health: Understanding and Addressing Digital Determinants of Health organized by World Health Organization which is really insightful and quite interesting and emerging issue required more systematic response, doable strategy and well sectoral coordination. Here below are the key themes Explored: 1. Digital Determinants of Health: - These are the factors shaped by our digital world that can sway health outcomes, either for the better or worse. - Think about internet access, the availability and use of gadgets, how well people can use these digital tools, and the quality and reliability of online health info. 2. Impact on Health Systems: - Digital determinants are shaking up how health services are provided, accessed, and managed. - Telemedicine, digital health records, and health apps are revolutionizing patient care and data management, but they also raise issues like data privacy, security, and accessibility. 3. Equity and Inclusion: - The webinar stressed the need to make digital health solutions accessible to everyone, especially marginalized and underserved communities. - Bridging the digital divide means ensuring that everyone has the skills and resources to take advantage of digital health technologies. 4. Challenges and Opportunities: - Challenges: Data privacy concerns, the digital divide (unequal access to technology), misinformation, and the need for ethical guidelines in digital health. - Opportunities: Using digital tools to boost health outcomes, engage patients more, and make health services more efficient. Innovations in AI, big data, and machine learning can lead to personalized and more effective healthcare solutions. 5. Policy Recommendations: - The webinar covered several policy recommendations to maximize the benefits of digital determinants of health: - Developing comprehensive digital health strategies. - Implementing strong data governance frameworks. - Promoting digital literacy and education. - Ensuring the ethical use of digital technologies in healthcare. Takeaway Messages: - The digital transformation in healthcare is full of promise but needs careful and inclusive approaches to benefit everyone. - Cooperation across different sectors—healthcare, technology, education, and policy—is crucial to effectively address the digital determinants of health. The key to superior healthcare is patient empowerment through control over their personal health data. Ensuring data quality and continuity is essential for accurate and effective care. Fragmented and error-prone records can hinder treatment outcomes and patient safety. When patients are empowered to manage their own data, they can enhance data integrity, leading to better healthcare decisions, improved research, and overall higher quality care. This shift supports a more efficient and interconnected healthcare system, benefiting patients, providers, and policymakers alike. 1. Data Quality and Continuity involves ensuring the accuracy and completeness of health records is critical for patient safety and treatment efficacy. 2. Patient Empowerment is key. When patients control their health data, they can ensure its accuracy, leading to better care outcomes. 3. Fragmentation Issues are real. Current fragmented systems often lead to redundant and error-prone records, impacting care quality. 4. Research Benefit improvement. High-quality data can significantly enhance healthcare research, leading to innovations and improved care protocols. 5. Interconnected Systems, the golden aim. Moving towards a cohesive digital health system can streamline operations and improve data sharing across different healthcare providers. 6. Investment in robust technology and infrastructure is necessary to support a high-quality digital health ecosystem. Read more about the future of health data management here: https://lnkd.in/gFzHPPff Prioritising patient empowerment and investing in robust digital health infrastructure, create a healthcare ecosystem that is more efficient, accurate, and beneficial for all stakeholders. #digitalhealth #technology #data

The EHDS is finally here! On 21 January 2025, the Council of the European Union adopted the European Health Data Space (EHDS), a landmark regulation which seeks to improve healthcare delivery, innovation, and public health across the EU. The EHDS introduces significant changes for healthcare providers, technology vendors, and researchers, including strict data security obligations and clear rules on patient consent and data access rights. Some key highlights below: 1️⃣ empowering citizens: individuals gain full access and control over their health data, including rights to download their data and insert their own information (although this must be clearly distinguished from any input from HCPs). 2️⃣ Interoperability: electronic health records must comply with the unified European electronics health record exchange format, enabling HCPs to access patient medical records in case of treatment in another Member State. 3️⃣ Data reuse for research & public health: strict security and access conditions will govern the reuse of health data for research and public health purposes. 4️⃣ data access transparency: individuals will be able to see who accessed their data, when, and what information was accessed, with full transparency. 5️⃣ data portability: individuals will be entitled to transfer their health data on request, free of charge and without barriers, improving data mobility across healthcare systems. The EHDS will come into force 20 days after its publication in the Official Journal of the EU.
