Space One's Kairos No. 2 Rocket Launch: A Step Toward Japan’s Space Future Space One, a Japanese space startup, faced a major setback during its second rocket launch attempt on Wednesday. The Kairos No. 2 rocket, which was carrying 5 small satellites—including one from Taiwan’s space agency—was aborted 3 minutes after liftoff due to an unstable flight caused by an abnormality in the first-stage engine nozzle/control system. While the mission ended in self-destruction, President Masakazu Toyoda emphasized the importance of the data collected, stating it will be instrumental in improving future attempts. This follows the company's March 2024 failure, where the Kairos No. 1 rocket was intentionally destroyed due to a miscalculation in propulsion. Space One aims to be Japan’s first private company to successfully launch a satellite into orbit, helping to boost Japan’s lagging space industry. The company, which has received backing from giants like Canon Electronics and IHI, envisions up to 20 launches annually—significantly more than the current government-led space program's 6 launches per year. While this launch setback is disappointing, it brings valuable insights to Space One's long-term mission of providing affordable, reliable space transport services. 🚀 #SpaceOne #RocketLaunch #SpaceIndustry #JapanSpace #SatelliteLaunch #Innovation #Technology #Startup #SpaceExploration #KairosNo2 #SpaceTech #Entrepreneurship

Space is a tough, tough field to crack—especially as a startup from a market that’s not already a mature space economy. But, we’re getting there. Today in LiveMint, we look at India’s latest push to urge space startups to create consortiums—a better bet to generate revenue. The first such group, called ‘Bharat Space Collective’, is here—featuring Kris Nair’s Kawa Space and three other firms. ⚡️ SpinLaunch raises $11M but hoped to raise much more, source says SpinLaunch, a space startup, is currently fundraising again after closing an $11.5 million round out of a planned $25 million. Previously, the company had discussed raising a much larger $350 million round at a $2 billion valuation, though SpinLaunch's CEO denies these figures. SpinLaunch is developing a kinetic launch system that could launch satellites to orbit for a fraction of the cost of traditional rockets. The company has made progress with suborbital tests and was considering the ambitious fundraising to compete with Starlink by launching a satellite constellation. However, SpinLaunch is going through a period of flux, with leadership changes and plans to build an orbital accelerator in Alaska that are currently unclear.

The Exploration Company, a startup operating across Germany, France, and Italy, has raised $160 million in its Series B funding round. The capital will support the continued development of Nyx, Europe’s first reusable space capsule, capable of carrying up to 3,000 kilograms of cargo to and from Earth. The funding positions the company to challenge U.S. dominance in cargo delivery to the International Space Station National Laboratory (ISS), a market currently served exclusively by SpaceX’s Dragon capsule and Northrop Grumman’s Cygnus spacecraft. The Series B round, led by Balderton Capital and Plural Investing LLC also included participation from Bessemer Venture Partners, NGP Capital, and sovereign European funds French Tech Souveraineté and DTCF | DeepTech & Climate Fonds. This investment brings the startup’s total funding to over $208 million. https://lnkd.in/euVWC8F3

This company has an ambitious plan to launch a payload into space. Instead of a traditional space rocket, they have developed a vacuum chamber designed to launch the object into space based on energy. The aim is for cheaper space launches. They claim they be able to launch a 200kg satellite into space for $250,000 and do this 4-5 times per day. This would mean less expensive launches into space. So far, they have completed suborbital tests and have also explored a location in Alaska for their accelerator. Their dream is to have a large satellite network in space. #startups #ai #technology #space https://lnkd.in/gpUuBGpS
